Music from background apps no longer plays while in game after update

After the 7/31 update music from spotify/itunes/other sources doesn't play from my phone even with the in-game sound totally off. Please fix this I can't handle the silence. This is my happy time to ...

What is the outcome of this investigation? It cannot be so hard to fix this. I don't like playing with the game's music and sound effects and prefer listening to my own music.
