After doublechecking with the team, and reviewing the gamedata, there have been no recent changes to Sith Trooper.

Oh, please. Jedi Consular's ship can grant Protection Up to Imperial TIE Fighter, a ship that has no Protection stat, when it calls for assistance. Under any other circumstance, a character that is geared/modded too low to have a Protection stat can gain Protection Up.
Protection Up is not Protection, and it apparently wasn't meant to be. It is a buff (meaning it is, for better or worse, dispellable) that is similar to Protection, but essentially separate from it and therefore was never subject to the conversion effect of the Nihilus lead.
If this change is meant to redefine Protection Up, then so be it. But there's no way they would have created previews of Sith Trooper & Nihilus with such a visibly prominent feature, then released the characters, then let everyone believe that it was working as intended for a whole year, if it were in fact a bug.

Protection regen does not matter under DN lead, however protection up always occurs regardless of leadership. Like if you use pheonix before they are purple gear level they will still gain protection per protection up, so sith trooper is not currently WAI
