*Solution*

Unfortunately none of the above is a solution (I wish!).

1. I understand that the problem is around Google Play Services, so switching from that to the EA login would work - but I am maintaining multiple accounts, I need the ability to be able to switch between the two.
2. I did this, and it was back to okay, for a day. Then it was the same vad as before. (It also wiped my Google Wallet, which was a very unpleasant surprise when I needed it.)

Yea that only really works if you only have 1 account for me and many others with multiple accounts not so much
