This can happen for a variety of reasons but is usually the result of a battle crash. We explained it a while ago HERE. If you see this more often, please follow our troubleshooting steps from this article.

Please do not disconnect your internet connection or use flight mode for the battles.

15 energy later, I have this to add:

- Killing him slower, without assists, one "Dark Trooper Squad" stack per turn instead of one-shotting him, even at 4x speed did NOT cause the game to get stuck. So speed is not the only factor.
