Trouble using PC EA Client

It started this morning but I logged in at 5am and then by 6:30am I could no longer log in. The game wouldn't load even though the task manager showed it running. I restarted the computer, reset the game and EA client cache but the game still wouldn't load. I ended up disabling the In-game overlay and the game worked... However, I've tried to make an in-game purchase and it just sits there with the "thinking" icon just spins and nothing happens. If I turn the in-game overlay back on, the game won't load... I don't know if you need the overlay on to make in-game purchases but I can't seem to get it to work.
