As far as I can tell, all text in the games is the same as the original products: it's only been changed to make it run on modern machines.

yikes, that's really disappointing to hear

I think it really depends what country you're in (and what context you say it in) as to whether it's considered a slur. In the UK, "Gypsy" refers to a specific group of Romani people who have been living in the UK for centuries and is used in many official documents. So it does depend (and I'm not Romani myself). Anyway, just saying it's a grey area and depends. No idea if they'll change it.

I can confirm the G word is still present in both games. I hope it's an oversight though. I'm glad someone made this thread though. It needs to be corrected. It's really not appropriate to have in a life sim when they are trying to be inclusive.

In the sims 2 there’s the Matchmaker but sims 2 has no references to Gypsy’s. the character isn’t called Gypsy. The only reference in the game is from sims 1 in magic town.

In the sims 1, 2, 3, and sims medieval, there is reference to the g word as shown in the links above. I am concerned when the company doesn't agree with that term (as they shouldn't) as shown by this forum link, Racial slur widely used in gallery | EA Forums - 8660182
yet they have re-published the sims 1 and 2 and already profit off of the sims 3 financially, subsequently profiting off of slurs used against roma people which i am confused about a company that has previously posted about black lives matter and wanting to be more inclusive, yet choose to leave this slur in the games?
i would appreciate this being removed from the games.

I hate that there has to be a mod for this. I understand that at the time TS1 launched, it wasn't widely known it was a slur. I myself (and I try to be aware of things like that) didn't even learn it was a slur until maybe 10 years or so ago. (And then I was equally horrified to learn a word frequently used to mean someone was ripped off was based upon that word. Now anytime I hear someone I know use it, I'm quick to educate them!) I'm glad there IS a mod though, because if I ever want to play TS1 again, I will be using it.
