Sims 1 Legacy can't install older official downloads

Looked to see if there was already a thread on this and could not find one. If there is please redirect me.

When the Sims 1 was first out, there was a section on the official website called 'Get Cool Stuff' which included Maxis made downloads, including objects, skins, and households. These were distributed as Windows .exe files.

If we still have these files (which some of us do), what is the process if getting these files to recognize the Legacy (rerelease) edition of the game? The exe files won't let me install as it's not finding the game in its "original" install location.

Does anyone know a workaround?
