The Sims Unleashed (Win98) - Crashes, Missing Objects
I should note that this is for The Sims Unleashed on CD-ROM, not The Sims Legacy. The Sims Legacy won't launch on my Windows 10 computer, so I brought my original Sims computer out of storage. When I last played The Sims on it, probably in the late 2000s, as far as I can recall everything was working. I've noticed that on entering a fair number of lots, the game simply crashes. On others, they load, but give a Missing Objects warning. On one lot I could tell it was the dining room table, but on others it's not necessarily obvious - most objects are there. How can I debug these issues? Are there log files that might say which objects are missing or why the crash happened? I'd like to be able to see the lots that I created way back in the day, especially the one that mirrored the house I grew up in, which is unfortunately one of the ones that crashes. I'm running Windows 98 SE, with 512 MB of RAM, a 450 MHz Pentium II processor, and an 8 MB Matrox Millennia G200 graphics card, with The Sims running in 800x600 mode. There have been a few changes to this machine since I last played The Sims on it, including switching to an SSD (but with the original partitions copied over), upgrading to Windows 98 Second Edition (from Windows 98 FE), adding more RAM (originally 128 MB), and that the DVD drive, which is original, switched letters at some point. I still have the original hard drive and RAM somewhere, so I could roll those back (and with it, the SE upgrade), but am hoping there might be a way to diagnose the problem before trying those steps. Bonus points if the diagnostics could also apply to The Sims Legacy. I'm pleasantly surprised that the original is partially working on 26-year-old hardware, but had been hoping the new one would work and I could migrate the lots from the original to it.
The Sims 1 Legacy: Resolution Issue
Hello everyone, I'm facing a resolution issue with The Sims 1 Legacy. Everything is working perfectly; the game starts normally with no errors or other anomalies. However, it starts in a very small resolution in the upper corner of the screen, while the rest is all black. The clickable area is as if the game is in full screen, making it impossible to play as I have to "guess" which black part of the screen I need to click to access the game functions. Before posting on this forum, I tried several solutions and found some temporary fixes. The issue seems to be related to Windows window scaling. For some reason, the game is conflicting with the recommended Windows scaling (in my case, 150% due to my 4K monitor with a resolution of 3840x2160). A temporary fix I found is that if I opt for a custom scaling (any value between 100-500), the issue is resolved, and I can play without any resolution problems. However, this scaling is applied equally to all connected monitors (yes, I have 2, one 4K and one Full HD), causing one or the other to have a huge or extremely small Windows interface. Additionally, my computer has been recently formatted. I've reinstalled the driver for my graphics card (Nvidia RTX 3070) multiple times and tried adjusting the game's individual settings to no avail. The only way I can play is by setting a custom scaling. Could anyone provide a more permanent solution to this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
The Sims: Legacy Collection – UI and Map Background Issues
The 1920x1080 resolution differs from all others with a smaller UI and a more zoomed-out camera, also at resolutions higher than 1920x1080, the blue background in map mode is missing, and there is just blackness around the map I don't use any mods or CC in my game
Plants are going invisible when they die.
As the title suggests if my plants die in the garden, they go invisible. Not all plants do this, but it does do this often and it's very annoying as demonstrated in the screenshot below. Only way to get the plant to come back is for the gardener to come bring out Servo, but the gardener has an issue where she stops showing up altogether.
Odd spawn point when Sim comes home from work or school (Sims 1 Legacy)
I noticed a minor bug, nothing game breaking, but when my Sim comes home from work or a kid comes home from school, they don't automatically spawn. I have to click their faces in the family and then they spawn by the mailbox rather than by the vehicle they exited. Happy to create a screen recording. Cheers, [Purchased via Steam]
Military Career won't progress
Recently streamed the game and recorded it (will eventually be on Youtube). One of my Sims has the Military career choice. Currently has enough points in his skillset to progress, and a couple friends, but he's still stuck in recruit mode despite going to work generally happy. Other characters have been able to move forward in their careers (sports, entertainment and criminal, respectively); can't seem to find anything specific about it but, yeah. This is for the PC edition of the Sims 1 Legacy collection on Steam.
Spanish Localization incorrect character names
Some Sims in the first entry have some different names/surnames than their future iterations' appearances, in TS1 the Goth family even uses 2 different surnames for the Mortimer/Bella household and the Gunther/Cornelia one ?????? (This was fixed in TS2/TS3). I'm using future iterations of the characters and not TS1 because those are actually consistent and TS1 is the "wrong" one in comparison. The format is "Wrong name/Surname -> Correct name/surname (according to TS2/TS3/TS4) Gunther Hernández -> Gúnter Lápida Cornelia Hernández -> Cornelia Lápida Menelaus Hernández -> Menelaus Lápida Hecuba Hernández -> Hecuba Lápida Miguel Soltero -> Miguel De la Soledad Virginia Gentil -> Remedios Gentil Señorita Traseroajado -> Señorita Culoprieto Ginia Fernández -> Ginia Gati Waggles Fernández -> Waggles Gati Boots Fernández -> Boots Gati Scout Fernández -> Scout Gati Maggie Fernández -> Maggie Gati Brad Pérez -> Alejo Clavel Tiffany Pérez -> Tífani Clavel Johnny Pérez -> Lolo Clavel Tucker Pérez -> Tucker Clavel La Autovía Gunther Goth -> La Autovía Gúnter Lápida (this one isn't a Sim name, it's the name of the Gunther Goth Highway) Honestly, I don't think this is as important as some bugs, but I feel like keeping lore consistency is important in such a big series so (if possible) I'd love to see this fixed at some point :))))
1080p UI Scale Size Still Needs Addressing...
With the new update comes the ability to change the resolution. This is a great addition and all, but sadly the UI size for 1080p users is still tiny, as seen in this screenshot attached. I understand some might suggest lowering the resolution to address the issue, but that really shouldn't be the ideal solution. Not to mention that lowering your intended resolution can result in multiple issues that people on the forums and the Discord Server have pointed out like jagged lines, bad anti-aliasing, and a blurry, ugly render. Those people deserve credit because I am not alone in this. We paid for this game, we have a right to play it in our intended native resolution and to play it with the correct UI size just like everyone else is. Please fix it. Until this is resolved, I plan to only play The Sims 1 Legacy on my Steam Deck so I can enjoy the game with the intended size.
