Cheating with your own business?

The first time I've I ever played Open For Business I played normally with having my employees take breaks and closing down the store naturally. Then I found out about cheats and ever since it's been nothing but cheating to have a successful business. It's been years since I've played OFB and recently have gone back to playing it. Now I feel like I'll fail without cheating with the maxmotives cheat I think I need a maxmotives rehab! How can I get back to playing a normal business without cheating?

    Hi :)

    My suggestions...
Don't start out with too big of a business.
Hire a few employees and call them on rotation if needed. Make sure they gain skills as the business gains levels
Have set hours and send your Sims home for the day.
Use the Energizer for your Sims and some Snapdragons for your employees.
Check each day for employees who have the badges you want- like gold in flower arranging or stocking or which ever you want. :)
Family works best because you can control their moods better. . . So, make a Family Business. :)
  • Start small. Have your Sim do all the work the first few days. Don't restock so soon. As long as there are other things to buy Sims won't fuss or just hang out like when they do when out of inventory. Put an espresso machine and a few end tables and coffee table in the building. So your Sim can stay energized. Make sure to add a shower somewhere, or the AL mirror so they can clean up fast. If your Sim is in gold aspiration then put the Engerizer in their inventory and use it when your Sim is low on hygiene, hunger, energy etc.

Don't hire Sims who require higher pay and have badges etc. They get those skills fast enough like running a register. Make sure you pay eveyrone fairly including your Sim. Don't over pay! Fair is good enough. Once you get back into the grove hire extra employees so you can call them in when others get tired. Send those home and call in second shift. It only becomes annoying when everyone shows up at one time, send some home, so you can call them back later. Make sure you use your wholesale discounts, sell the inventory and buy it with wholesale prices once you start getting wholesale perks.

If it's too busy for your Sims, raise the prices.

ETA: Unless some aren't aware, OFB was changed in a later EP, where Sims don't really have to be approached anymore to make them buy something. They will eventually buy it on their own. This really anoyed me, and the Best of the Best award is rewarded in about two days. And that change makes players pay their own Sim, that is not how OFB worked in the beginning. I rarely have a Sim 'sale' and use my own Sim and usually it's level five etc. within two days. It is rather boring now. ETA: Another change is Sims don't hang out but buy and leave. That is also not how OFB worked when released. It must have been FT that made all those (easy) changes.
  • Ya I would make a small business. Maybe a home business so family can pitch in and help. Like Rflong says, family works best, you can directly control all of them. If you have set hours, you will be able to see when they get hungry, bathroom ect, and be able to plan for everything.
  • Yea I always have my sims' spouse be part of the team but still need employees especially for a restaurant. But thanks so much for the advice! Had no idea about the snapdragons
  • You can run a business with just 2 playable Sims if you keep it small and even get it to Rank 10.

Make sure there's plenty of room for people to walk around and get access to the items you want to sell.

Have 1 person be the primary cashier and 1 person be the restocker. If you see someone do the "I can't find what I'm looking for" action, have someone immediately stop what they're doing and help them.

The restocker will sale if there's nothing to restock. What Cinebar said about not restocking is only partly true. Sometimes Sims come looking for a specific item. It is a ding if you don't have it in stock, but it's usually not enough to cost a star unless you've done it multiple times. They'll move on to another item and usually buy it - and gain points towards stars while doing it.

Dazzling (top sales badge ability) drains at least energy. Don't use it on anything but the high end items. It guarantees a sale, but you don't don't need to dazzle to sale the cheapest radio.

Don't have your cashier glued to the register at all times. He can help sale or restock during breaks between customers to check out. Just get him back to the register quickly should a customer approach the register.
