Hi! I am having the same problem here. Could play a few times, then after today's update, BAM! Again this error. Had the same problem years ago with the collection. Bought the legacy now thinking they would have fixed it. There is no way to do it.

I have tried with windowed, compatibility (W7,8,9,19, Vista, xp), lowered all graphic requirements from CAS. And still, crashes every time I want to get on a lot to play. This is a long known error that doesn't seem to be solvable.

Hope EA solves it as we have now bought a "new" version that should "work".

sry my DxDiag is in spanisch, but should still be understandable. If the problem is with graphics, it should be in here.

    HELPP!

Hi, I am having the same issue. I don't understand what is going on. I hope it can be fixed. Please let me know if any of you knows how to fix it. Can we contact EA about this?

  • I had the same problem on the create your character. I think I fixed it. it is working for now.

First I would recommend to find the file in which the game has been installed. for me is :

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Sims 2 Legacy Collection

and then do a search on the search bar with .exe and find the "Sims2ep9" the one to start the game.

then do  go to properties and change compatibility to "windows 7", I also check the "disable fullscreen optimizations" and "Run this program as an administrator", then press "apply" and follow by "ok".

I also went to setting > display > Graphics and proceed it to find the game and put it to run on the best graphics card that my laptop has. "NVIDIA" in my case. If you cannot find the game, press on "add desktop app" go to this "This PC" or wherever you got the game install and find the same file from before, when you tried to do the compatibility:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Sims 2 Legacy Collection

    and then: "Sims2ep9".

add the game and make sure you select the best "GPU preference" and "optimizations for windowed games.

then (if you can start the game, in which I hope it does as it worked for me), make sure to lower the graphics to medium, everything to medium and then I think you should be fine.

    Hope this helps!

What worked for me was to turn the shadows off.
To do this, i first went into a community lot or a house without people in it. Then went to screen settings to turn the shadows of. This has worked a couple of times. I had to turn the shadows off a couple of times. But then the settings were saved. Unfortunately after a while I again got an error. So i´m going tot try te solution of Kay-lunas.

I am still facing this issue. I just purchased a new laptop and played this once, it was fine, and now it will give me the error every single time - even with the above instructions. I can't get into the settings to even adjust the shadows as others have recommended because I get the error before then
