Sims 2 will always be my favorite edition of The Sims. The cutscenes, non-rabbit hole community lots, home businesses and silly deaths, as well as the option to go to private school, were some of the things that kept me coming back. TS2 had a story-building aspect to it that its successors just don't have. The plumbob used to actually be apart of the Simverse and had purposes - it wasn't just a sim marker like it is now.
In terms of graphics, TS3 was the least attractive to me. Sims looked metallic and stiff, the world was littered with rabbit holes and inaccessible terrain, and the UI was uncomfortably shiny. I haven't experienced any of the lags or glitches I keep hearing about, though that doesn't deduct the fact that it's still a major problem in TS3. Sims 4 thankfully retracted from that style, but everything looks like it came straight out of a Facebook game.
