Game Crashes (without warning or error message)

Anyone else finding that their game will crash without warning after the new update?

In the past whenever I've experienced the game crashing it has always come up with some variation of an error message and then I have to close it. This time the game loads generally fine (other than being a bit slow when The Sims 2 loading screen is displayed), it allows me to pick a world and start playing with a household and then without warning the screen will go black and the game shuts down. Then I'm left with the EA App still loaded like nothing had happened.

This only started happening when I updated the game yesterday.

  • This is happening to me as well. Crashing constantly. I am CC heavy, but very few mods. If I travel to a lot - crash - if I call a sim crash. Anything that requires me to do anything outside of my immediate save causes a crash. No issues post update. I did a clean save and was getting the same thing

  • Same! Tried really everything. It doesn't  matter wirh/without CC, start  as admin, open in windows (-w), all programs updated, gsme itself installed, uninstalled.... Nothing helps

This has also been happening to me since 2 patches ago - no mods. It started after my sims graduated university and went back to the main world. At first I could narrow it down to certain actions - like cooking a meal or reading. So I’d clear all their actions upon opening the game back up and usually it wouldn’t crash again. But a little later something new seemed to trigger the crash. Now I’m at the point where clearing their actions doesn’t help. The game crashes within 30 seconds of getting the household loaded.

This has started to happen to me today, first time playing since 15th Feb. So I haven't touched my world since the latest patch (27th feb)

    Loading neighbourhood then it CTD.

Tried without mods, doesn't work. However, I can open another new world. Any guidence from people?

I am on steam and tried reinstalling the game

  • I am up to 80% in my downloads folder and played game for 45 minutes with no crashing, so it has to be on my end, definitely cc or a mod. My advice is to pull out your Downloads folder and stick it on your desktop and just go test game with no mods in it, I am testing it on Des. Valley as I do not play in that hood, I am a Pleasantview player. Did not crash once in over a hour of testing. Slowly been adding mods/cc back only issue I have seen so far is in two diffrerent folders found zipped files, no idea why I did not check folder on that particular day. I test for 45 minutes of gameplay with each test, normally my game would crash after 15-20 minutes tops.

I've been experiencing alot of crashes since the new update. Before I could play for 3hrs easy and nothing would happen, last night I played ts2 and it crashed 6 times over the course of 3 hour-ish. I don't play with mods, I do have some hair cc's. I play on the EA app.

It crashed twice being on a community lot, the others were pretty random. The game just freezes for a few seconds and shuts off.

  • Did you ever figure out a fix for this? I haven't played the game in months, but over the past week I've been trying to play. But within 20 minutes the game crashes with no error message. The EA App will still be open after it crashes. Idk why this is happening. I've tried different fixes but nothing works. I don't have mods or cc.

  • This has been happening to me too. I only recently downloaded TS2 Legacy and have been playing with another version on my previous computer. I use mostly same CC and mods as before, and have never had this problem in my previous game where I was in gen ~15 of my meganeighborhood and used to play for hours without a problem. It was in Strangetown too, which is notorious for its corruption.

Now I can't get through even half of a round in a 5-household rotation before this crash happens. The neighborhood is fully custom one and game runs otherwise quite smoothly, so I'm pretty sure the problem's not on my end.

How often is the game crashing? Sims 2 has always crashed somewhat randomly. The "work around" has always been to save frequently, quit at the 1 hour mark (maybe 2 if you already cleared cache files once), delete all the cache files, then start up again. Then it will generally run fine for another hour or more.

All that said, if you try that and it's still crashing frequently, and you can't even play an hour, then it's probably something else.
