Been a while since I made a business at all. From what I remember offhand for a home business, Make sure you lock the doors into the house for household only. Nothing like having customers coming in and start using your stuff. :D Another is to fence off the back yard, and lock the gate for household only. Those little simmies sure do enjoy your pool or swingset, or anything else you have back there! I think I had some steal from my garden a couple times too... If you have a door from the business into the house make sure to lock that also. Basically barricade everything except the entrance into the business! :joy:
Make sure it is somewhat spacious, really small places don't tend to fair well. You might want to think of adding a bathroom as well. You can have a separate area in the shop locked away from customers so your sim can use the restroom, or just grab a snack quick without having to go through the actual house. Don't forget the sign for open and closing the shop, and don't forget to turn it around when you need to.
Other then that, I think it is the same as any other business off lot.
