Re: The Sims 2: Ultimate Collection won't launch

@musicvibezz Please go to Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection\ and delete Groups.cache and Accessory.cache files, then try launching the game.

Let me know if that fixes it.

  • This is not working for me... it just won't start.... any other ideas?

  • Hi @mate54,

I tried to reach the Groups.cache and Accessory.cache files and the folder is empty ☹️ I just have the folder Logs and Teleport and both of them not have the .cache you told earlier.

The game opens and then a error window appears and it close my game. Nothing's writing on this window...

    Can you help me?

Thank you so much for your help.

@missGraphx If The Sims 2 folder in Documents\EA Games\ only contains Logs and Teleport folders, please delete it and try launching the game again.
Which version of The Sims 2 do you have installed, disk or EA App? Let me know if you have used any fixes suggested by the community as well.
  • Heyy! I have the Sims Ultimate collection, I have installed the game via CD, and back then it was linked with the Origin. But I have Windows so I have to use the EA app but unfortunately, the game is not in the library and I cannıt play the game. every time I try to launch the game the ea app pops up and says "You don't have access". I just want to play my game! Hope you guys can help me!

I have the Sims 2 Ultimate Edition too. I have had it work with the EA App in the past without an error.

Today after the update to the EA App, my game would not launch. A dialog box appeared that said "Mansion & Garden Stuff Is Not Installed" and then it crashed.

I did everything that was suggested in the previous comments for a fix, but nothing is working.

    Suggestions?

@almilaemre , if you had the game in your Origin account you should still have in your EA App account as well. Did you have another EA Account and had to create a new one for some reason? Just trying to narrow down possibilities. Anyway, if you had the game before the conversion, you should still have it somewhere buried in your games. This sounds like an EA Help Line solution as they have the ability to restore lost games or to merge accounts. While EA Help cannot grant new access to the game, they can certainly help you recover lost access.

  • @ja420 , what exactly did you do? You have to do a vanilla reset which will help you determine if it was the game itself or perhaps something else. To do a vanilla reset of your game is very easy. Go to your Documents folder, find the EA Games folder and literally move (do not create shortcuts or copy and paste) The Sims 2 folder to your desktop. This is where all your saved games are and your CC/Mods, but don't worry they are safe for the time being. Then simply start up Sims 2 like normal. The game will regenerate the folders you just moved without your saved games, CC or Mods present. If the game starts up, play for about an hour to insure all seems to be working.

Start another thread (so we can keep track of your issue) letting us know of your progress and what happened after you completed the steps outlined above.

Hi thanks for getting back to me. I tried your suggestion. I had the same result.  It loads up on the "Fun with Pets Screen" and then a dialog box pops up that says, "Sims 2 Garden & Mansion Stuff is not available, the application will now terminate." and it crashes to desktop.

I am running the program as an administrator and tried running it under Windows Vista SP1 & SP2 > did not work.

I tried running it as Windows 7 compatible > did not work.

In all honesty, I haven't played the Sims2 in quite a while, but it was working fine on EA App with no problems.

Now it's not working at all.

Not sure what to do next.

  • @ja420 , ok sounds like an installation error. Try uninstalling and then reinstalling Sims 2. Everything should be included, but it seems like something isn't reading something right.

@Tremayne4260 Thanks for getting back to me. Tried those three times - same thing. It's the weirdest thing.  It was working fine on the EA App a few months ago.

After the latest update it wouldn't work for me at all.

  • @ja420 , currently there are issues with the EA App itself. Keep an eye on the banner or check the link shown. You may just have to wait it out until EA sorts the technical side out.

  • Was there anything else I can try?

I tried running as command center, deleting the Accessary and Group cache, and running as administrator but it doesn’t launch. I was playing Sims 2 Ultimate yesterday night and had no issues. However, this morning neither Sims 2 or EA is launching. I click and there be the loading circle but nothing happens. I clicked on other apps and the launch immediately.

  • Right after I downloaded a free app removal EA resolved itself. So I guess EA was just down since I didn’t get a chance go try out the app removal. Thanks for the suggestion it makes more sense now.

@Tremayne4260 I wanted to put this out there in case someone missed it.

I found this by accident on Answer HQ a short while ago, EA Cade had posted it back in January [Workaround] Running The Sims 2 on Modern PCs - Answer HQ (ea.com)

I tried the steps outlined in this post, and it worked!  I got the Sims2 to run again. Can't wait to play again. It's been forever.  Thanks to you for all of your help, and a very special thanks to EA Cade. I hope that this news helps others.

  • Hello,

    When I go there, I don't see any groups.cache nor Accessory.cache files?

    :/

@msjelly6191 Since this is an older thread, please start a new one with more details on what happens when you try to launch the game, whether you get any error messages. It looks like your user folder is on One Drive, which is not recommended, so making sure your Documents folder is stored locally might be the first step to go through.
