Sims 1 keeps crashing!

I refunded the game and repurchased it after hearing about the update. However, The Sims 1 still keeps crashing after about 45 minutes of gameplay. According to the patch notes, playing on an external screen could cause crashes, so I’ve been using only my laptop—but the issue persists. It’s very frustrating! The Sims 2 runs without any issues, so I have no idea what’s causing this.
