SIMS 2 Register for EA via CD

With the relaunch of the Sims and Sims 2 will people who purchase via CD will be able to register the game to EA app. I understand if the disc is still needed to play the game if that has to be an option. I have all expansion packs. I do remember registering the game back when they came out but it wasn't on EA. It would be nice for EA to do something similar like they did for Sims 3. I purchase all my Sims 3 via CD but my CD purchase was convert to a digital format.
