Sims 2 Ultimate Collection vs Legacy Collection

So, as someone who recieve the Sims 2 UC back when EA gave it to us, I've been pondering whether I want to buy the full Legacy/birthday bundle with Sims 2 and the OG (never played the OG before so I think it's worth it), or just the sims OG bundle. I have questions that I haven't seen any answers for yet on any site, and I don't think EA has come out and made a statement for it.

Yes, I understand that there are mods that fix compatibility issues and workarounds for windows 11 vs older games. That's not my question. My question is that if the people who have UC will retroactively recieve a similar patch for compatability reasons. I know the UC was given up in 2014, which is still fairly modern, but I can't remember if it recieved a compatibility patch or not at that time.

I know in general that EA said they wouldn't release patches or updates for the sims OG and 2, so why now? Aren't they supposed to generally be abandonware for various reasons? There's a lot of unsaid things behind this remaster release for sure.

I may be wrong, but I don't think they will issue a patch for those of us with UC because UC includes content they now have copyright problems with (IKEA and certain music tracks) which they have excluded from the Legacy version. Even if they did issue a patch, they might use the patch to remove such content (although it can still be added back in, using various workarounds).

I have UC and a Sims OG complete collection already, but bought the whole birthday bundle because I thought it would be good to have versions tailor made for more modern computers. I haven't tried Sims 1 Legacy yet, apart from loading up and checking it out, but I don't really expect problems playing it (fingers crossed!).

However with Sims 2 Legacy, I have played it  a bit, but have begun getting random crashes and pink soup, all the usual shenigans I already have had in the past with UC. So for the time being I have taken that off my computer, and gone back to UC because I've got various mods and workarounds to avoid all these problems. If EA come up with a load of fixes that overcome all the bugs and glitches that Legacy currently has I will take another look at it.

I do like that they've reissued these games so us long time users can get our hands on versions that have been (theoretically) adapted to newer machines, and those who have never played before can see how much fun they are. And I don't really have a problem paying for them given the tens of thousands of hours of enjoyment I've had over the last 20 years. But I think they should have done more homework on TS2 and checked out all the various problems and bugs people have experienced over the years and which the fantastic modding community have done their best to provide solutions for.

That's what some people were also speculating on other platforms. I get that EA has a lot of fixes to do. I haven't tried to play UC on my new PC, but I had played it before on my fiance's PC and had no issues other than the graphics resolution being way the heck off.  With your feedback, I think I can justify buying the whole bundle, as I've never played the OG before (I was too young for my parents to buy it for me and be happy), and I'm a big fan of the older games (please EA, release unto us sims 3 and medieval as a UC)

Hope you enjoy it - the Sims complete collection was my first Sims game and I loved it, hilarious and cute and very good fun.

What I'd like to know is, should I buy the new bundle for TS2 at all, since I have the Ultimate collection already, and it works fine on my current Windows 10 PC. I mean, I will eventually have to upgrade to W11, but until then... Eh.

Also, the OG Sims collection... I have the *original physical collection,* that I have never been able to make work on my current PC, so I am really considering it. However, the price... I bought that physical collection for like 5€, while the digital in EA App is 20€... Call me crazy, but I think I am waiting for a sale. 😆 I did buy it second hand, though, so...

That is funny! It sounds like you might want to wait a bit - there's a lot of bugs with Legacy Sims 2 - I don't know if OG is the same. , If you can manage with UC then there is no harm waiting. It's only been out a couple of days, so you can monitor the situation.

Major part of the bugs are from the OG TS2, but I haven’t seen most of them in my UC, besides one crash yesterday - heartbreaking one in fact - and even those are rare on TS2 for me… I don’t recall having a single one before that one in 2025, although I don’t think I have played TS2 more than a few times this year 😂

Do you know if the patch that EA released for both The Sims and The Sims 2 bundles fixed your problems? I only bought The Sims 1 Legacy Bundle because I already own The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection and I have already played a decent amount of The Sims 1 Legacy and even before the patch it worked fine for me. I was wondering about The Sims 2 Legacy and if the patch actually fixed the problem people have been having then I might buy it so I don't have to mess with Ultimate Collection mods and fixes every time I install it on a new PC. Also, I saw that The Sims 2 Legacy had better scaling when it came to modern resolutions wich is one of the reasons why I want the Legacy version of The Sims 2.
