Sims 2 Windows 10 app blocked by administrator, autorun.exe

Has anyone else ran into this?

I was able to play and install the Sims 2 before, but it's been some months and now I see I can no longer play. I uninstalled the game and now trying to install, I cannot play it.

When running the program, it tells me autorun.exe is blocked by an administrator. Ive tried looking at the properties and unblocking, but it doesn't even give me a security option. Ive tried disabling smartscreen in app & browser control, but that did not work either.
  • Did you check also if it was not your anti virus blocking the sims2 autorun.exe happen to me with sims4 i had to white list sims4 in my anti virus

It's something in Windows 10 and 11 on new PCs (as I said before, I had no problem on my old Asus desktop--but the Lenovo that succeeded it was problematic as it was current spec and a new, modern PC) in which the default user is NOT the admin also.

In fact, I just did it a few days ago so I could install the game (I FINALLY located the proper USB cable for my removable disk drive)).

On another note, removable disk drives that aren't USB-C are SLOW. I think it's time I replaced it.
  • have you check to see if its not being block by your anti virus? because some app or exe files needs to be whitelisited in your anti virus
  • A new Windows update even refused me playing Sims 4. I found out why by clicking the Notifications at the extreme left of the Taskbar. It gave me the option to sanction Sims 4 through the firewall. Perhaps it did that to those having difficulty.
If having problems with Windows 10, check System, Home, enter firewall in search box and that will give you an option in the list of App permissions and 'Allow through firewall' if you are using Windows Defender.
  • Howdy!!
I just had to share how I managed this to FIX this "Administrator blocked" issue.
To preface, I bought the entire sims 2 collection in disc form via CEX last week. I got to freetime before I experienced this issue. I have been up all night downloading the games so this was annoying to say the least and I tried everything the internet suggested.
    But
The answer was right in front of me this whole time:
    - Open your task manager,
    - Click the "More details" tab on the bottom of the window,
    - Click file,
    - Run new task,
    - Type in E:\AutoRun.exe and MAKE SURE to SELECT the "Run with administrator privileges" option.
I did this and the game began installing!
    I hope this helps :)

  • Running command prompt as admin and running the autorun from there worked for me

    For example:

    D:
    start autorun.exe
  • PS - This type of info can be found on EA help now, but probably not for legacy titles like the Sims 2.

When installing Sims2, make sure to have Admin rights and roll-back the computer system date a few years. (ie 2010)

It does work, this allows admin install of CD's, and the rollback of system date, bypasses' the CD/DVD security.  Then inital launch the game, save,  shut it down,  then reset system date.  You should'nt have anymore problems....famous last words...

    Hope that helps
