Voices sound abysmal

All other sounds are working fine, just not the voices. I know this wasn't an issue with original game. It's especially weird since all other sounds are good quality, but the voices of all sims just sound incredibly compressed and "fuzzy", especially the higher pitched sounds sound as if they are coming through an old telephone. I'd like to know if this is going to get fixed, otherwise I'm going to have to return the game :(
