$160 Worth of Simpoints?!

I just saw that there is now an option to buy 16,000 simpoints for $160 DOLLARS! Now I'm wondering why someone would spend more than 150 bucks just to buy virtual stuff. I'm not mad about or anything, I just think it's plain silly, I mean come on. That's a lot of money just for stuff in your game!

    That's adorable! Congrats! :D
  • I have a large wishlist and a part of me wishes I could afford to pay $160.00 for Sim points. However, I also have two very young babies (5 months and 2 years), a wife, and have no job (those who say that going after a Ph.D. in philosophy (I'm ABD) and trying to support a family go hand and hand, are lying).

So, in reality, whenever I give into an impulse to buy Sim points, which unfortunately I have, I feel extreme guilt and realize there are more important things in my life to spend money on. That's the problem with things like the Sim store, it really does feed into the compulsive buyer in people, including me. Ultimately, then, my wishlist is more of a wishful thinking list, with no intention of ever owning things on it. It's nice to dream sometimes though.

Anyway, if people have money and wish to spend their leisure funds on things that make that time more enjoyable, I don't see how it hurts anyone. Its the same as someone spending a lot of money on a nice fishing pole or items to fix up a project car they have -- we call these things hobbies and people that don't share the same hobby might find it strange.
  • Of course caring for family and providing for the future (kids' college fund, retirement, etc.) has to come first, but I don't see that DISPOSABLE income spent in the Sims 3 Store is any worse than any other way to spend it.

My husband and I have no children (we joke that I have him and he has me). We have a household budget with a certain amount of money that each of us is allowed to waste, guilt-free. That amount is larger than when we were young and poor, but we have always had some. We call it the "toy budget" and it is money we can afford to waste after bills and savings are all taken care of.

I think it's good, and saves on needing mental health professionals and psychiatric drugs later, for working people to be able to have a few things that they just WANT. Even if your toy budget is $5 a month, you should get to spend that money any way you want, guilt-free, and it should be on a little luxury for you alone.

I don't spend my whole toy budget in the Sims Store, but it would almost be better if I did. I have a doll room, but even with a whole room if you have ENOUGH dolls things get filled up. Space in your house, being finite, is like that.

Thank God for the Kindle because we were going to start drowning in books. Have you SEEN those "horders" shows?

The wonderful thing about virtual goods is that it isn't something I have to buy a new cabinet for, rearrange a set of shelves or drawers to store, or fret about whether or not I'd better keep the box (and find a place to store THAT as well).

And, yes, space on your computer is finite as well, but you can always buy more memory.

When you first said you were expecting a baby "soonish" I immediately thought you meant IN THE GAME. LOL! I pictured you buying sweet toddler items in the Sims 3 Store when you said you were shopping for the baby.

Oh well, I guess in view of the venue it wasn't THAT stupid.

Here's hoping that he (or she) is healthy and happy and so is his mom.

    P.S.
A kid named Dinosaur had better be tough or she'll get beat up a lot. I agree maybe you should be a LITTLE less cutting-edge in baby name choices. 8)

Same here. We are fortunate enough to pretty well off and to have lucrative careers, but we both have our play money. I always have some sort of hobby to spend it on. Whether it be gadgets, sims or something else.

I hear you about the kindle because I read excessively. I am so glad that I don't have a ton of books everywhere now. I love it!

I saw. I left a thank you note in the gift giving section because I didn't know how to send you a private message.

Thank you so much for the surprise gift. I wasn't trying to panhandle with my post, so I was completely taken off guard by your generosity.

Though there is joy in my family, seeing my little ones grow and spending time with my wife, it is has been a very hard last couple of years trying to find teaching work that could support us. So, your gift brings some light to these dark times. Thank you again!
  • Hey, if I had $160, I might do it *shrugs* I mean, people buy lots of stuff everyday that they don't really need. You could buy dvds, cds, books, computer games, expensive clothes or whatever. I really really like the Sims and I'm not a fan of custom content, so I lovelovelove the store items! I buy it when & if I can (which isn't often because I'm a poor college student with no job xD ) and if I had over $100 sitting around, I might get the $160 bundle - especially if it was on sale. There's no reason to make fun of people, you know? I know some Simmers who buy big bundles and then gift a ton of people. I think that's really nice.

I saw it and you are welcome again :D

I completely understand and didn't think you were. One of the reason I bought the large amount of simpoints was for gifting. So it makes me happy to bring you some light. Teaching jobs are very hard to come by these days. My sister-in-law has been out of work for a couple of years and just substituting. If I were in the same situation it would be the same for me. Family and responsibilities come first. :)
  • EA, DO NOT DELETE THIS FORUM AS ITS IMPORTANT FOR (EVERYONE) OR THIS IS CONSIDERED ABUSIVE. —(SPOILER ALERT!)

No, don’t. I agree with many Sim Players in this forum as well as everyone else who encountered game problems. I think $160 sound like a scam price, bad unnecessary Micro-transaction, and is EXTREMELY ridiculous for ANYONE to spend their own precious money on something that isn’t real. I’m quitting playing the Sims 3 because I’ve encountered too many problems and bug issues in this game over years, created too many cases, AND EA has not been releasing patches for this game for years (Since 2013). Great, how would I enjoy this game if there has not been any updates, too many in-app purchases, and no opportunities to make own objects, worlds(Not released for Mac) And expansion packs, which I asked during chat many times with a server as they say “NO”. I think $20 dollars for the MOST sim points is reasonable, or we can just EARN them in the game, as UNLIMITED. I spent $20 already for expansion packs, so why do I have to pay MORE for nothing as I think that this BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE, taking up personal space, and video game abuse act. I want to enjoy this game, but only until EA has decided to make things right. I don’t care if they suspend me, but this is a RUMOR, COMPLAINT, and an unsatisfied customer, but NOT anymore if EA decides to turn things around. I’m not ranting, and don’t want people who actually LOVE this game to disagree with me. I’m voting EA as worst company ever.

If I caused too many uproars, rumors, or complaints, Let me know (By Mail in Forums.theSims) when you think that this post should be REMOVED immediately.
