@Thrippa or @Lexers615 I have a quick question about messages in a bottle.
I've seen a few people asking where to find these bottles. I have been led to believe they can't be found now. But I could be mistaken about that.
I have just sent my Sim (alone) to Isla Paradiso because she needs to catch some fish for her alchemy elixirs. She has no scuba skill so I sent her snorkeling in the hope that might help her.
After a very short time swimming I sent her to look for seashells with the assistance of her collection helper. The second and third seashells she collected were bottles with messages in them.
I am using EllaCharmed's fixed version of Isla Paradiso.
Just wondering if it is just the badge that can no longer be obtained or if people really can't find the bottles with messages in them.
Well, the quick answer is that the "Bottles" exists essentially in Isla Paraiso, though they can be sparsely obtained everywhere. They still exist, but no matter what, the badge won't ever trigger. After collecting a mix of 20+ bottles, and still no achievement, I lost patience and built a "dummy" underwater lot with an overly excessive number of "spawners", and did the same thing on the "home lot" of that household. After 180+ bottles, still no achievements. I tried sending the bottles to online friends (25+), I tried completing the "Dive Jobs" (opportunity) requiring some (50+), giving them to NPCs (20+) and so on and on and nothing. At one point, I have several stacks in the inventory of the different variation of the bottles (at least 20 different variations of the basic bottle). So I'm confident saying that collecting "bottles" don't trigger the achievement anymore.
There exist several kind of "bottles", and they can be collected from six different source ("exploring" "underwater caves", "underwater shell spawners", "land shell spawners", the special "bottle spawners" in the "BuyDebug" menu (not used anywhere in the game), when snorkeling, or, a lot rarer, "received as a gift" from a NPC "mermaid"). The three first sources are the most typical ones, and only naturally exist in Isla Paraiso, but "Merdaids" can be found anywhere (from time to time) and you can "snorkel" anywhere ("bottles" are rarely found that way though) Regarding the "bottles", the most common one is "rare" and, when collected, gives a "Message in a Bottle" in the inventory. The actual message appear when hovering the cursor over the bottle, and most of them really are funny. A lot rarer are the "Piece of Map in a Bottle". When collected, it will give a "Piece of Map" in the inventory. Once you get four "Pieces of Map" your sim can "Reconstruct" it, and a "Treasure Map" will appear in the inventory (at least tree different maps exists, but the actual map obtained is random). Two uncharted islands can be charted this way, but regarding the second one, it's unclear if it's a bug. Last "bottle" is the "extraordinarily unusual" (or something similar) "Map in a Bottle" that, when collected, may chart one of the two above mentioned uncharted island, and will then appear in the inventory as a "Message in a Bottle" that is worth §2222, while normal bottles are worth between §75 and §150 (Don't ever sell the basic "bottles", you get five to ten times that amount when turning them in for the "Dive Jobs" when your sim is "Opportunistic".). From the various sources on the web, the map resulting from the collected "Pieces of Map" should uncover "Plunder Cove" and the "extraordinarily unusual" "Map in a Bottle" uncovers "Pumbob Island". However, I've had several household in Isla Paraiso, and I've personnaly witnessed the "extraordinarily unusual""Map in a Bottle" uncovering "Plunder Cove" if found again after "Plumbob Island" and I've also personnaly witnessed "Plumbob Island" being uncovered after the third and fourth maps being "Reconstructed" (First one having uncovered "Plunder Cove", and second one not having done anything). Is it a bug? Is it a fix? Is it to rebalance that players may not find the right bottles according to their playstyle? Unclear...
