Square yardage is the standard used in the carpeting industry, and many other housing related professions. Tilers and flooring professionals use a square foot standard for measuring. American standard for measurement for carpentry and most other contracting related professions uses feet and inches.
A sim double bed is 2 x 3 squares.
A real double bed is 54in. x 75in.
The space a sim bed takes up represents a 6ft. x 9ft. floorspace.
The extra width and length is to accommodate for navigation around it.
According to my calculations above the double bed would be 48" x 72". I'm trying to help in the area of converting from a real life floor plan into a sim floor plan. See the post on page 13 about Assignment One. Sims vs. real life, well not a very close match, but we do what we can to accomodate.
