Cannot Download Store Content

This is a continuation of this thread regarding being unable to download worlds and other store content while still being able to download Exchange items.

My issue is that I was originally able to download and play Riverview in the Steam version 1.67, but earlier this year the launcher asked me to download a patch that now launches the game exclusively in 1.69. Because of this, I am now unable to download store content or access saves that used store content worlds like Dragon Valley and Riverview.

All of my Sims 3 Store items show up in the launcher, but whenever I try to add them to my game it tells me that the installation failed and to make sure that my game is up to date.

@igazor recommended that I make this thread as this thread is ten years old (whoops) so that we can further discuss the issue.
  • Thanks for reposting this so we can continue the conversation. :)

I'm still a bit confused as to how you might have both a Steam and an Origin controlled installation at the same time. Maybe I'm not understanding that part correctly. But store content downloaded for use in one of the two types of installs will not work on the other. Players find when switching platforms (Steam to Origin or back) that they do have to re-download all of their store content again, while logged in and using a game registered that was installed on the intended platform. They cannot be mixed together.

If I am understanding what has happened correctly (and that's admittedly a pretty big "if"), the way to proceed would probably be to set aside the TS3 user game folder in Documents so it doesn't get further disrupted, uninstall the game entirely, both versions, clean the Windows registry using a tool such as CCleaner, and reinstall only one or the other -- the 1.69/Origin version or the 1.67/Steam version, whichever platform you prefer.

When the base game and its packs are purchased on Steam, they do provide the codes that can be used instead for an Origin install. But again we aren't meant to be using both platforms for installations at the same time. The 1.67 Launcher will never offer a path to "upgrade" to 1.69 as that patch is delivered and managed by Origin only. Unlike all of the other patches up until that point, 1.69 doesn't come by way of the Launcher and on Steam installs there shouldn't be any patching to worry about at all -- Steam takes care of that for us.
  • Hi there @Igazor! I wanted to start off by thanking you for your help and I apologize for the delayed response.

This evening I was finally able to sit down and follow your instructions. I uninstalled The Sims 3 through Control Panel and verified that it was uninstalled on both Steam and Origin. I then ran "Easy Clean" on CCleaner and restarted my computer. I then re-downloaded The Sims 3 through Origin, but when I attempted to start the launcher I received an unspecified error and was instructed to check the log. I wasn't able to find the log in Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 or in Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 3.

I uninstalled The Sims 3 again through Origin, deleted the respective folders in the EA and Origin Games folders, and then cleaned the registry (which I should have done in the first place instead of assuming that that's what Easy Clean did). I'm about to restart my computer and try reinstalling again through Origin.

Once again, thank you so much for your help -- I really appreciate it.

FYI: A steam user shared their store patch here:
    Delete the obvious spaces.

So, if you don't want the Origin version, this will let a steam version get patched and then be able to install store content.
  • Thank you @ciane for sharing! :D

Honestly, the only reason I was trying so hard for the Origin version was that it's easier to get it to 'talk' to Create a World than with Steam.

After several attempts at reinstalling 1.69 I kept getting the same startup error, so I gave up and downloaded 1.67 and it worked first try. Not only does my game now work again, but I once again have access to all of my store content!

Thank you both for your help, especially @igazor c:
