How did my household acquire thousands of simoleons overnight?

It was somewhere between midnight and 1 AM in game. My household was sleeping. Before they went to sleep they had about 850 simoleons. I had time on fast forward, and was reading the little notifications from NRAAS Story progression about what the townies were doing, and then dismissing them one by one.

Suddenly I heard that "tinkling coins" sound that means your sims have earned something, and the household funds were now a little over 20,000 simoleons. My sims somehow acquired around 19,000 simoleons while they were sleeping!

I don't know whether this was accompanied by a notification of any kind. It's possible that there was a notification and that I dismissed it without noticing, along with the Story Progression notifications I was reading and then closing.

Does anyone have an idea where this money came from? My sims were not selling anything in the consignment shop, nor do they own a resort or any real estate (I know that none of these options would make them gain money overnight anyway, but they were the the only reasons I could think of.)

Probably an inheritance via SP. I usually switch off all options except inheritances from direct relations (parents, siblings), because the default options sometimes give you inheritances from role sims, like the bartender you spoke to twice in your game, which made your sim his best friend. As some of those non-resident sims can have funds in the millions, this can wreck the whole economy.

@Turjan , thank you very much! I've been playing with Story Progression for a long time now, but I didn't even notice inheritance was a thing that came with it. It's possible that some of my previous households had received money this way, but they were already rich when it happened so I didn't notice. This was a very noticeable change from 850 to over 20,000!
  • As you are running NRaas SP, you can always run an Accounting Report under SP > Household Options. An inheritance would show up there under sources of income. But that's not the first thing I thought of.

There is a bug in the game that has been there since forever whereby a vehicle is sold and the active household gets credit for the sale even though they never owned it in the first place. A specific even amount such as ยง19,000 tends to match that of a vehicle in the Build/Buy catalog. I don't know how to prevent that from happening, if that's what it is, but I just MC cheat the extra funds away whenever I notice it.
  • @Nikkei_Simmer - Sims are, at the end of the day, nothing more than overlapping sets of data, collections of numbers, with a hopefully pleasing looking outer shell. Collections of numbers must balance at all times. The only unusual thing about these collections of data/numbers is our ability to somehow feel affection for them.

And now the rest of you may feel free to tell me to go blow it out my bean counter (best said with a heavy Brooklyn accent as some of my friends have) as you happily get back to enjoying your games. :p

@carlystur03 , I definitely don't have a mod that is specifically for doing that!

I'm playing with NRAAS Debug Enabler, Decensor, Error Trap, Master Controller, Master Controller Cheats, Overwatch, Relativity, Retuner, Story Progression, Story Progression Population, Tempest and Traveller.

I'm also using some non-NRAAS mods that do just one very specific thing each: More Entry Points, Random Genetics, Merchant Work Hours Adjusted, No Venue Placement and Unlocked Simport Rewards.

Thank you very much, @Igazor! I have never noticed the Accounting Report option - I will look at it the next time I'm in game to see if my sims got an inheritance. But the bug you mentioned is, I think, the likelier option because not that many townies have died at this point in my game.

Could it possibly be the Robin stealing money from some unlucky soul and laundering some in your direction, depending on what NRAAS mods you have?

You mean we get to "bean-count" in this game too? Oh...cool.
