My sim Angela is a singer, and her husband is a police officer. A gnome appeared in Angela's garden, and when I first saw it, partially hidden by the garden plants, I thought it was the singer gnome. But it didn't look right, so I clicked on it and found out it's the magician gnome. According to the wiki, magician gnomes will only appear of one of the household members is a magician or a witch. My sims are neither of those things. This is the first time I've ever had a gnome appear when none of the factors that are supposed to trigger it are present.https://i.imgur.com/v5RTEPg.jpg

I found a thread on MTS where a member mentioned in passing about never having a magician Sim in her homes but still had magician gnomes popping up on lots where there are gardens. @starguru Thanks for that link. I guess when she plants the next season's garden, I'm going to put him in the garden and see if the plants will grow faster.

There's a bit of a bug with Showtime gnomes appearing on lots they technically shouldn't. And they can keep appearing...and I'm not talking about reproducing via gnome families. Only the Mysterious Mr. Gnome goes through age transitions.A head's up - gnomes do nothing for gardens.

@Anmira So this gnome's appearance has nothing to do with the fact that my sim has a garden? Most of my sims do garden, and the gnomes tend to congregate in and around the gardens, and even move there en masse while my sim is tending to the garden. But I've never yet played a magician or had a magician gnome before this. So I guess if it really was the garden that caused him to appear there, I should have seen one before this.I did sort of test the theory of the magician gnome having an effect on the garden plants, by placing him next to the plants my sim is growing indoors in pots during the winter, but they're not growing any faster.

The only one that will spawn specifically because of plants is the Vampire Gnome if you 3 plasma fruit plants. The other gnome that can appear because of gardens is the Spring bunny Gnome (he can also be triggered by woohoo - he's cute, but a bit...creepy - in a voyeur sort of way).Gnomes won't help your plants in any way and are usually just as happy to turn on your TV and plant themselves in front of it for the late night movie matinee!

it does not always list all information. For example a summer gnome, Brawn Brawn G'nome, can be had just by it being summer. For me that one pops up whenever during summer, even in saves where the sims do not have pool parties, makes BBQ, or keeps fireworks on their lot; those just being extra weight on the chance of getting one.

The "HoudiniGnome" can be created by a magician at level seven and up, doing the Appearing Objects trick - maybe the household had a wandering wizard visiting :grin:

There is an old and in terms of the game's age early made, now outdated, modified "Garden Gnome", that makes plants grow fast; that perhaps could account for some confusion

@Anmirla As of now, the only gnome I've never had is the hip hop gnome. I've had more spring gnomes than any other kind, except for the horse gnomes, and I agree with you about those voyeuristic rabbit gnomes. They're worse than the peeping tom mail carriers.

@Auroraskies That's the wiki page I referred to, but I guess I should know enough to not take it as the final word on gnome behavior. It says that only the Mysterious Mr. Gnomes can have families, I know from experience that isn't true. All of that type I've ever had first appeared as babies when I only had other kinds of gnomes to parent them.

The confusion is probably because MM Gnomes are the only ones that age. Yes, other gnomes can be parents (I've had several Lounge Gnomes and Magician Gnomes gittin' it on), but only MM Gnomes will be "born".
LOVE those toddlers that just appear. Sooooo...frickin'...cute! <3

Oh, and that bunny likes to pop behind the toilet to watch Sims...yeah...ya know... :o

This was inside the Skylight Studio for the Performing Arts. My sim was there working out at the barre upstairs. It wasn't there when she got there, but it was when she left. I was not watching, so I have no idea how it got built in there.

Well I'll be. I had no idea there were anything but regular ol' annoying garden gnomes (I have 5 now that drive me nuts). One of my sims got one in the mail the other day as an award for something. It's got sunglasses on and a duck on it's shirt. I was kinda surprised by that. But it sounds like I'll have all kinds of them in my future since I have all EPs and I make sure all my sims have different careers. Just got the first magician in the family. Now if I could just create a little gnome house and make them all stay inside...
