My sims won't go inside their house when they come home

I'm not quite sure what would cause it but I would check to see if the door itself is locked to everyone. (unless you already checked that and I misread somewhere. Apologies for that :p )

If it's not, then I say you should save the lot to the library bin, delete the house, and re-place the house lot. That's usually my go-to fix whenever my houses act up. Hopefully you find an answer to this!

There might be something invisible blocking them. Have you checked for jigs and things like that? Have you tried moving the gate so it isn't immediately in front of the door - just in case there is something invisible blocking them from using the gate where it is now.

They have always been able to get in the door if I click inside the house and choose go here, or click on something inside for them to interact with, so it's not that they can't get in at all, they just won't go in when they come home from off the lot.

So after reading what the two of you suggested, I checked for jigs, and found none. Then I moved the gate, and the sim I sent off the lot to test it still wouldn't go inside when he came back. So I finally evicted the family, saved and bulldozed the lot, replaced the house and moved them back in, and they still wouldn't go into the house when coming home from off the lot. So unless anybody has any other ideas, it appears that I'm stuck with either removing the part of the fence in front of the house and putting up with paparazzi coming right up to the house, or putting up with my sims not going into the house when they come home. I don't like either option.

I guess I do have one other option, which would be to ban paparazzi from this town with the NRaas Register mod. I think I like that option the best. They live in Hidden Springs, which seems to be the capitol of their nation, since the royals live there, so I thought there really should be paparazzi in the town for realism. I don't mind them following my sims around town, which they don't do often anyway, as the parents in my household are both only one star celebrities, and not likely to ever progress beyond that. I don't even mind when they hang out outside the fence. But I can't stand having them close to the house.

Hello! The best way to fix this issue is to make sure the door is unlocked, if that doesn't work then debug your sim. How to DEBUG: (ctrl > shift > c) > testingcheats true (or) testingcheats on > close cheat bar (ctrl > shift > c) > hover over sim > hold shift and click on your sim (at the same time), then click "reset object debug". Hey, I just realized this was a sims 3 discussion! The solution I posted was for sims 4, I not sure if it will work, because I have never had the sims 3. But feel free to give it a shot! -@powers6180

@powers6180 - No, none of that will work for TS3. The resetsim cheat is reached a slightly different way and isn't going to fix this.

@IreneSwift - Bit late to see this thread, but I often get this issue with lots where the designated front door is behind another door/gate. I don't think there is a fix for it except to keep an eye on our sims and direct them to a location inside the house as you said instead of allowing them to Go Home generically. I see it with inactives who have gates in front of their lots as well, that's why they spend so much time standing around in front of their houses instead of going inside right away.

@igazor This is actually the first time I have ever had this issue. I guess I've been lucky. The reason I dislike it so much is that there is almost always someone at home, and I am usually busy with the sim(s) already at home and don't notice when another sim or sims arrive from work or school, unless they come inside the house. On low free will, they just stand out there doing nothing, which wastes time I would prefer having them make better use of.

I guess I should probably remove the gate in front of their old house for the benefit of whoever might move into it in the future.

I would just mark the gate as the front door since it's an option to do that if the gate is the first opening the visitors reach on the lot.I've had Christopher Steele unable to enter his home ince after he glitched and shrank to toddler height with his adult head after my active family's baby was taken away by the NPC social worker and there were other signs of corruption starting to show up in that save like married cuples turning into siblings and others becoming partners or romantic interests when they were family.
@IreneSwift -I'd just set the gate as the new front door in that case.

@TadOlson Do you mean the gate on their old house? The thought had never occurred to me to set the gate as the front door there, because I have an intense dislike of having gates designated as front doors on my active families' lots. I might do that at the old house though. I don't care what other sims see as the front door on their houses.

I would set a gate as their front door if they had to get through it to get to the front door of their house.
