Sims 3 Mods won't Work

For whatever reason, I can't get any of the mods I downloaded to actually show up in the game. I've done everything the wiki says- My game is updated to 1.67, I downloaded the resource file, there's a mod folder, a package folder, and everything is in the right place. However, when I start my game to see if it worked, nothing changed.

The only reason I could think this is happening is because I have my game on Steam, so the Sims 3 Folder routes through my program files, and not documents. But if that's the problem, I have no idea of how to fix it. Can somebody help?
  • I am having a similar issue where my computer will not download mods because it doesn't recognize the pkg.file? I am playing sims 3 on a mac air and I can custom cc with only using the sims launcher.

First of all, if you haven't already done so, you have to set up the Framework to accept and have your game read and load package based content. Your computer doesn't need to know what a ,package file is for as they should never be double-clicked on (unless you are trying to edit them and create your own mods, but that's a different matter). It just needs to know that the files are .package files, which it can see from the extension in the file names.

Here is the illustrated guide to getting that setup and the download you need, which includes the required Resource.cfg file and a couple of simple test mods -- NoIntro and NoSparkles. The illustrations are for Windows, but the structure, location, and functioning are exactly the same on Macs. Once it is set up properly and tested, mods simply get placed into the Mods/Packages folder.

But you mentioned a MacBook Air in passing. That sets off a huge alarm. MacBook Airs do not meet the requirements for playing TS3 as their processors are far too weak and they have an unsupported integrated graphics chip rather than a dedicated graphics card. There are some players who can get the base game (only) to run on an Air, with all of the graphics settings in game options set to the bare minimum, but even then they risk overheating and damaging the device. Most of the EPs would be out of the question. Are you really able to run the game well on yours?
  • I have been playing the sims 3 on it for months and the fan gets extremely loud but other than that it runs very smoothly. Thank you so much for helping me with the mods. Though with the mac air I have noticed that I get more issues than usual. Thank you so much.
  • I also have most of the expansion packs installed and just recently did a fresh factory reset and it has seems to fix the majority of my issues accept trying to install mods though the fan may freak out some people(Its extremely loud doing game play but doesn't overheat my computer) my computer hasn't shown any symptoms of overheating.
  • That would be the problem. The mods folder has to be in a game folder in Documents, not Programs, as of Patch 1.12 or something like that for most modern mods to function, including ours. But I've never heard of a Steam player having this problem (doesn't mean it's not common). Would re-installing and re-pataching to 1.67 be an option? Or perhaps posting the question on the TS3 forum at Steam? Haven't looked in ages, but they used to be very helpful over there.
  • I do have Windows 8, so maybe the pathing is different. Re-installing and re-patching wouldn't do much, because this is the default way it arranges it's self- I remember from the last time I had to re-install I'll go check the Steam forum, Thanks!
