Sims 3 Suddenly Lags???

Seasons is a hefty game pack but I don't know why that would interfere with Sims 4. If you post your computer specifications and a dxdiag (or a link to one) the next computer expert who comes around can help you. That's not me. :smile:

Do you have enough empty storage space on your PC/laptop? How about your graphic setting?

This may well not be it, as it's actually reaching for a straw, but I immediately thought of the same thing as @xamira99 and you haven't actually answered this question. How large is the hard drive on which all of this is running and how much free space have you got on it?

Yup, the Basic Display Adapter is back. You don't even have a driver for your graphics card currently installed. Do you know the specs of your laptop? If you have a deviceconfig from when the game was using your card, that would list it, about 30 lines down. Otherwise, hit Windows key-X, choose Device Manager, expand the Display adapters section, and see what's listed there. Even if the card isn't working, it'll hopefully show up.

Please also find the software download page for your laptop. HP makes it difficult to find this page without a serial number, and of course you shouldn't post that online. Instead, go here:

Enter your serial number, choose your OS if asked (Windows 10 64-bit, 2004 to be specific), and you'll land on the download page. Please link it here, so we can see what drivers are available. That page won't have any personal information about you, just downloads for your model laptop.

@puzzlezaddict It successfully installed and showed up under display adapters. The improvement in how my screen looks also shows it's definitely working. I wonder if it got uninstalled when I had to wipe my computer.

There is a big issue though, which is that none of my games are launching. I can get to Origin and the Sims 3 launcher, but The Sims 3 shows up as a black box and then stops responding. None of my other games are launching either, nor do they even show up as black boxes. I try to open them like usual and then nothing happens. They show up in radeon settings, but still won't launch. Even when I select the option in radeon settings to launch them, nothing happens.

(It's currently 2am where I'm at so I'll come back to this thread tomorrow. I really appreciate the help with this.)

The Careers mod is really a loader for custom careers, afterschool clubs, homeworld universities, and university majors. Without it present, any custom careers, etc. will be ignored by the game. It sounds like it's more likely that one of your custom careers is causing the current crash on startup issue, but not so without the Careers mod because then it wouldn't be trying to load. The mod alone doesn't really do much.

@igazor Thanks, that may be it. I could play around with it more to precisely identify what career is causing it, but I think I'll leave that for another day. I was spending hours yesterday testing the game and I'm too fatigued from that to keep going right now. :D

Do you have the NRaas mods Overwatch and ErrorTrap? If not, install them and see if they help. They take care of some things that cause lag in Sims 3.

I got busy and didn't get around to replying until now whoops. Anyway,

Cororon, I do have both of those mods installed. They've helped immensely with my game in the past, which is why I find it odd how it's not working. The lag is just as bad in build/buy so the issues those mods help with might not be my problem.

For computer information, I'm running on a windows 10 64-bit laptop, fully updated.

Processor: AMD A12-9700P Radeon R7, 10 compute cores 4C+6G (4 CPUs), -2.5GHz
RAM: 12.0 GB (11.5 GB usable)
Memory: 12288MB RAM

Game's graphics: they're not set super high, and I even turned the graphics down low and it didn't do anything. I've been messing with them all day, but to no avail. Normally, I can leave everything medium with a couple on high.

Some weird stuff that's happened since my original post:

Yesterday, the 'about' portion in my settings listed Microsoft Basic Display Adapter as my processor. This has since changed to AMD being the processor, so it seems it just took time to recognize my actual graphics card. Yet, there was no change as to how the game played. I don't know if it's relevant then, but I thought I'd mention it.

Another thing I noticed while loading up the game again is that my game is extremely dark unless it's minimized. I looked it up and it seems this is an issue people have had in the past, but I don't know how to fix it.

I tried to play another game recently, Don't Starve Together, and that was lagging really bad too (and I'd get zero lag from it normally). I only have two other games on my computer and they're Danganronpa 1&2. Neither should be a heavy game and they've always run perfect, but they're now lagging heavily.

That's leading me to believe it might be a computer issue. :# My laptop's a few years old. I just did a full wipe of it because it couldn't sign into my user accounts, but the sims still ran fine directly after the wipe. Hopefully this isn't a "need to get a new computer" issue since I just went through all the trouble of a total wipe.
