Sims University question(s)

I'm a new TS3 player, and I've had fun sending my Sim off to the university. I have some questions about things that happen at school that don't seem to be issues in other settings.

My Sim sometimes makes an earnest effort to get to class on time and discovers he can't get into the building. Several of his classmates have blocked the door, and it can be quite some time before the Sims solve their routing puzzle and clear the doorway. By now, my Sim is late for class. The last time it happened, he arrived at 3:15 for a 4:00 class and didn't get into the door until 4:30.

Once, the professor who gives his Thursday morning lecture was also caught in the doorway. She didn't get to the podium until nearly 9:00.

Another time, he arrived early for his 4:00 class and strolled right in, so he started class at 3:25. I have him set to have some free will, so he made the decision to go to class early all by himself.

Is he penalized academically for being late? Or, when he gets there early, does he get "extra credit?"

  • I don't think you get extra credit for being early. The Sims Wiki says "although Sims are allowed to skip classes for at maximum two days, more frequent occurrences result in punishment" so do the math yourself about how much time you lost.

The constant "contribute to your degree or have your progress go down even while you sleep" mechanic isn't perfect but you can make up for lost class time by building up skills related to your major and you can also study outside of class for exams.
  • That makes a lot of sense. It would be good if the time spent in class would balance, so the times my Sim can stroll right in could make up for the times when he's blocked by half the student body and can't figure out how to get through the door until class is half over.

I've also found that when he arrives late, he can work harder in class and make up for lost time. That seems to help, too.

    Thanks for your answer!
  • In my case, i jist send my sim to the next class place straightaway as soon as finishing the class. You won’t get ‘go to class’ but you can arrive the lot before other sims starting to move for the next class. My sim always arrive an hour and half before the next class and get nto the building without being blocked by other sims. The graduation ceremony is the same too. You can send your sim to the stadium building at 12 pm. And your sim will be at the graduation place about at 12:30 to 12:50. The graduation starts at 1 pm. Other sims start to move at 1 pm. Your sim wont get problem to get into the graduation ceremony.

For the activity classes are on every Tue and Thursday. You don’t need to worry about being blocked. I always have my sims play in the outside of the classroom. The performance still goes up as if your sim is attending classes. As long as your sim is in the building, no problem whatever your sim does, except for falling asleep in class. My sims enjoy jamming with musical instruments with other sims and earn some tips as well while the lecture is in the classroom and graduate with A+.
  • I start resetting Sims. That clears the door pretty darned quickly. ~evil smirk~

"resetSim FirstName LastName" voila your sim has a clear route into school...and now everyone ELSE is late.
  • The ability to arrive extra early is kind of meant to be a way to avoid our actively played sims from getting caught in the crowds that form closer to the classes' start times. But for those not averse to using mods, this one helps immensely by among other things making more entrances to the buildings where classes are being held actually usable. It works miracles for regular school overcrowding in homeworlds as well. :)

Do you reset your own Sim, or the npc ones?
  • Your own sim is the one that is trying to get IN the door; so the ones that get reset are all the ones preventing him/her from getting in the door. ~evil smirk~

Hey, life isn't fair...to those the Watcher doesn't like.

And if I had the ability to zap people that were clogging the road...when I have to get my wife to work on time.
