Thread for MoonlightSaviour

This is from @MoonlightSaviour page:
So, since I can't make a forum post, I'll say it here: I have no idea if it's a side effect of my mods or not, but my sim adopted 3 babies... And one of them was a full on seasons expansion Alien baby. Not purebred, but according to mastercontroller, it has 0.03155554% alien DNA and it's a light yellow-grey-green. I also have no idea how to post any pics of my own, but not sure it'd matter since every 'picture' on here for me is a picture of some speedometer thing telling me to upgrade my account on a different website to view 'third party hosting'. Anyone else ever had this? Is it just incredibly rare? My only mods are nointro, story progression, master controller and traveller.

Paging @igazor for help... :)

  • I think it's most likely because something is wrong with the patch going up like a driveway. Either way, I have to wait a week before I can play again anyway- started glitching really bad, apparently could be corrupted. It was crashing without so much as an error, just closing, any time I went to a different world after loading one up, even just switching them in the edit town mode... Sadly I have to wait until the bandwidth resets just to be able to redownload it all. I figure that plus a bunch of other issues, can't hurt to reinstall in case one of my mods screwed it up or something, like traveller. Issue started suddenly, no changes to the files, no new mods, nothing, just suddenly started doing it every time without fail this morning. No changes to my computer either. .-.

I still really really want to be able to add Beautiful Vista to lots, I really think they messed up by not adding it to Waterfall Way in Sunset Valley. XD
  • As you wish. But unless you have done some tinkering yourself in the Program Files (x86) area, or are suffering from hard drive corruption, there is almost never any reason to reinstall the game. The contents of the Program Files, which is all the installs provide, do not change over time and mods do not affect those. Only patches do, but there hasn't been a game file changing patch issued for TS3 in over four years now. TS3 mods operate totally alongside of the game and out of the user game folder in Documents, not inside the game engine at all. This is even true for the five commonly in use what we call Core Mods, they are still totally independent of the game install.

Pulling your user game folder out of Documents instead, such as to the Desktop for safekeeping, thus forcing a new one to be generated on the next startup, is a more standard way to provide a no-content "factory reset." Although I suspect even in a new instance of Twinbrook spawned, the lot in particular will probably behave around the same way.
  • Well, I always delete stuff from the featured items folder, have had and removed CAW, and even added more RAM to it. So yeah, I've messed with it. XD Also, damn, wish I knew it'd generate a new folder if I just moved it... And I didn't do it for that lot, I have had more than a few issues. I usually try to find fixes online, but sadly many are useless to me, like the pool windows flashing red despite my fully compatible graphics card.
  • I think I just found out why my 'driveway' doesn't count as a road. XD Fresh install, aaand...

I know that I'm supposed to focusing on the broken road, but sorry can't help it. What's the 386 in the upper left corner? Please tell me that's not your fps rate or, if it is, it really says 38.6 and I'm missing the decimal point!
  • It is my fps. And it really is that high, I'm quite proud of the gaming beast of a computer my brother in law built for me. I use fraps so it always comes up. It's much lower in the actual gameplay, that was in the build/buy mode. It's usually below 100 in game. XD But for some reason the starting cutscene goes well over 4k. No idea why. Also, the university mascot still parked there, I tried making some of the lot at the front slope down. Haven't adopted pets yet, made the new Sim with 2 dogs already.

Below 100...okay, but what is the refresh rate of your monitor? Most of them are 60 Hz. Some of course can run higher, but I've never heard of one that runs higher than 240 Hz (and that would be pretty extreme). The fps rate should never exceed the refresh rate of your monitor in any of the game modes.

Apologies if you know all this already, but excess frame rates on actual gameplay, higher than your monitor can interpret, are the equivalent of digital noise. They don't impart quality at all, they lead to graphics glitches, lag, screen tears, crashes, and can ultimately burn out your graphics card and system board. Unlike newer games, TS3 does not have a built-in fps limiter.

For what it's worth, I would strongly suggest making vsync take hold and use whatever tools you can (Nvidia, AMD, RivaTuner, MSI Afterburner, sure on fraps if you can get it to work, whatever might be relevant) to cap that as a very high priority before continuing gameplay.

Still can't make new posts, sorry to necro this one- does anyone know if there's a mod or a way to use CAW on an existing world without removing things like the waterfalls to add the Beautiful Vista moodlet? I tried just saving the lot from Twinbrook, but it doesn't keep the moodlet... I really want it (And honestly it should be there by default) on the Waterfall Drive home on Sunset Valley.

Beautiful Vistas are assigned to lots, not houses. Meaning that lot has a Beautiful view... no matter the house on it. :)

There are worlds which have been made available for CAW~CAWster has it.

Your save won't work with the newly exported saved of SSV.... the saves correspond with world numbers, not world names. IIRC, they'll be considered different worlds.

  • I know, but I want to add the beautiful vista moodlet. I meant saving the empty lot (after tearing everything off it by hand, not using the bulldozer tool) and it doesn't save that way. I really want to get that moodlet on so many, and I can't understand your last mini paragraph. =[

As for the FPS thing, aside from not being able to make vsync run, again, that's only that high in the actual build/buy mode, main menu and the intro animation (which I usually use a mod to remove anyway) so it's not an issue. It's usually around 30 something to 70 something in the actual game, towards the lower end depending on the world (which is most). My monitor is 60Hz. Getting up to 70 is incredibly rare, only happens on fresh custom worlds that don't even have lots, let alone structures or god forbid some trees... I don't use them anymore anyway.
