Very Bad Stuck, whole town at Hogan's Diner back door, Riverview

Sorry my advice didn't work for you. It is what I used to do back when I did have this issue (not just in RV). I have played RV a lot as it is probably my favorite EA town, but I have never had an issue with Hogan's Diner *knock wood.*

I do use Overwatch and Error Trap though so I have not had any problems like this for a long time now. I thought a patch had addressed this issue, but maybe I was mistaken and it is just the mods that take care of it.


It should not mess up your town to just delete Hogan's Diner. Unless there is a grave/urn on the lot. If someone died there and their tombstone/urn is still there, you would want to move it to the graveyard before deleting the lot. HTH!


ETA: It occurs to me that you may have a stuck social jig in the way that is making it difficult for people to leave. Unfortunately, without Twallan's mods, I do not know how you would even check for it or get rid of it.

@Alexyslouwho, I'm going to be locking this thread due to our rules regarding necroposting as the thread is many years old, but if you're still experiencing this issue after giving monjr8302's suggestion a try, feel free to start a new thread!

To get all your sims out of there, open up your cheats (ctrl-shift-c) window, type in:

testingcheatsenabled true

then open the cheat window back up (ctrl-shift-c) and type:

resetsim *

This will reset everyone in town. Please note that your game may lag for a minute or two as it resets everyone.

You could also go into edit town and pick up the lot and then place it back down, this will set everyone onto the sidewalks. But they may still be stuck there so if they are you will need to reset them all.

I would go in and edit the lot you are having issues with so that people won't get stuck (remove the air conditioner), so that it doesn't happen again.

well I've started a new game. amazing support for noobs around here.

It will let me pick it up in town edit/build mode and it gives me the option to delete it. Will that cause a problem in the gameplay since there's a bistro on the other side of town? or is the diner as well as the bistro an important combination in terms of the culinary career?

I have the base game, seasons and generations, and those are all at least 2 or 3 years old aren't they? And Riverview? as in launched.

Surely in all that time other people here have had the same problem with the Riverview Hogan's diner back door being too close to the lot edge for sims to leave.
How many million copies of this game globally sold?

And I'm the only person who's had this problem?

I have started a new game in Sunset Valley but it seems a waste of the Riverview game because they were up to generation 2 and a half.

I think the advise Mariesalias gave was actually the best. Resetsim is what will clear up the problem. And you can always reset your own sim by typing in resetsim firstname lastname (with your sims first and last name in it's place. Any sim, for that matter).

Also, overwatch and errortrap from Nraa's mods will probably help clear things up in Riverview as well. I'm just now playing a family in Riverview, so I can't say if I've had that problem or not, since I have overwatch and errortrap installed, I might never catch the issue.

I haven't experienced it with Hogan's Diner myself, but I have had a similar problem with the school many times. Apparently, story progression tries to send too many sims to a certain rabbit hole at one time, and they end up in a logjam.

The most repeated solution I've read for the school is to put a second school on the other side of town, the idea being that the game will route sims to the closest school (or diner), so some of the kids would end up going to the new school and free up the gridlock. It's supposed to take a few sim days to work itself out. I have to say it didn't seem to work for me, but maybe I was just impatient. I know that it has worked for a lot of people. You could try it with the diner.

You could also change the lot type in Edit Town to something that may attract fewer sims. I usually have the opposite problem: no townies anywhere. I've never seen any townies in a "small park," and there are tons of them in Riverview. I usually go around changing most of them to "big park" just so my town doesn't look dead. The wiki lists all the lot types and which types of sims will and won't be attracted to each. You could experiment to see which lot type attracts an "appropriate" number of townies.

The thing is, DivinylsFan, that you DID receive some good advice on this thread, and at first you didn't even say whether or not you tried any of that advice. You never even said thank you. You merely whined about having to make a new town and made a sarcastic remark to the effect that you think you're being ignored and treated badly because - what? Because you only got one reply instead of ten or twelve? Petulance is not pretty.

I've seen you make similar remarks on other threads as well, outright accusing the community here of what you derisively term "noob treatment."

This forum is about one one-hundredth as active as it used to be, but even now one look through the threads in General will show you that the community is still, on the whole, helpful and friendly. If somebody asks a question and gets few or no answers, maybe it's because nobody has read that thread who feels qualified to help with that problem. Or maybe, as you think, they just don't feel like posting. It's just a discussion forum for TS3 players, after all; nobody's obligated to rush to anybody else's aid. The fact that they do it anyway makes them look admirable from where I sit. The virtual stomping and gnashing of teeth isn't likely to get you helped any faster.

thing is with the cheats, while I was trying to fix the problem before I came in here, I thought I'd try what worked in Sims 2 and hit control, shift, C. I thought maybe I'd try move_objects on, or see what is in the list. But Control shift C didn't do anything, just made things a bit darker. There was no box to type in that I could see. So I hit Escape.
I read the suggestion to do the reset. I don't know what's going on with the control shift C, and I didn't know if I wanted to reset everyone. Then after that there would sure to be another pile of sims stuck at that back door after another while. So the actual diner needs to be fixed, after dealing with all the stuck sims.
I thought about bulldozing it or deleting it. But one of my household sims had just beforehand gotten a job in the culinary and the town view showed that diner as his new workplace. I assume all culinary jobs start at that diner. So deleting that diner would mess up that part of the game. So a different diner needs to go in it's place or that diner needs to be edited so the building isn't so close to the edge of the lot. When I was in the build mode, it did allow me to pick it up, but everywhere spare on the lot I tried to place it, the game said 'location out of bounds'
Now I don't know if you're able to see inside the diner to edit it's walls etc with certain XP's.
By accident for a short time I was in the build mode of being able to re-align the lot, I wasn't able to get back into that after. It wouldn't let me align the building more centred, probably because the picnic tables and carspots, and a couple of collectible rocks were in the way but it did allow me to rotate the lot to face the opposite way. That's the only re-alignment it allowed. I thought I could go back into that and do that, they'd at least be free to walk away themselves, and then after they'd walked away I'd be able to delete the lot. But would that mess with the gameplay as in the culinary career, since that diner is tied to at least the lower ranks of it? Any idea how it was that I was in the build mode that has the re-alignment options? I can't remember how I did to retrace my steps there.
I would then need to replace the diner with a better version, like the one in Sunset Valley. But I don't know how to do that.
I find it odd that in the default lot bin there's no extra community lots apart from parks. I've seen player made diners on the exchange for download. Will they act as THE diner if I download and place them in my game?
I see Dim Sum saying to place a secondary diner. Where do I get one from that will act as an official diner and how do I put it in?

Last night however, after getting my brain in a knot over the what then's and it being 3am, I just deleted the whole game/town. And accidentally deleted my new game. I smacked my forehead with my hand.

Before giving up for the night, I went through my folders and tried to see anything needing cleaning out. There's a lot of cache files, I don't know which one's to clean out. I left them. I don't have any CC. After things going wrong with my first couple of games I got rid of the few CC items I had, thinking that would set it right, namely the mods from MTS that test if CC is working, the no video and no sparkles thingies. The game did seem to run more glitch free after that. Apart from the diner. So I've decided not to use any mods.

Also before going to bed, I created a new game. I'm yet to start playing it today. I made it for Sunset Valley. I won't start any games in Riverview again until I know how to edit or replace the diner.
You mentioned there being an issue with it before, and the school. I looked through the previous patches and don't see the diner being mentioned. My current patch is supposed to include all previous issues anyway I was told, or is that not the case and I need all the previous one's too? I also can't find any old forum posts about this issue, which is weird because there is a fault with the design of the lot and like I say I surely can't be the only person with this problem after all this time, since the lot has a bad design.

You say you're missing townies. Have you been to any of their party invitations only to find the host isn't there, the house empty and hardly any other guests? Have you invited someone over or out on a date and even though your relationship is fine they're saying they're hung up with something else? Look through your town because they are stuck somewhere. That is what was wrong with my townies. And they were all at the diner, stuck. The streets were quiet, parties were empty, dates being stood up.

I hope this new game I play today doesn't mess up. If it does I think I'll give up. And it'll make me sceptical of the product quality to come with Sims 4.

Ctrl-shift-C is correct. You probably just didn't recognize it. The game screen darkens, and the space where you type the cheat appears as a lighter strip along the upper left edge of the screen. Type your cheat code there and press Enter. I recommend typing "testingcheatsenabled true" first, because it's a prerequisite for some of the other cheat codes. I can't remember which ones, so I always turn it on.

The move ojects command in TS3 is "moveobjects on" (without the underscore or, of course, the parenthesis).

I don't know why you don't have the alignment thing, if by that you mean the arrows that let you shift the entire lot within the space provided. I've never actually played with that. By the way, if you type in the cheat "testingcheatsenabled true" you can right-click on the ground on the diner lot and one of the options should be "build on this lot." Saves having to go through Edit Town if you have a slow-loading PC like I do.

Yes, you can repace it with the diner lot from Sunset Valley. Here's how I would do it:
Start a new game in Sunset Valley. In Edit Town, select Hogan's Diner. In the window that pops up, click the folder with the arrow ("Save Copy to Library"). Exit to the main menu; it's not necessary to save. You have what you want. Back in your Riverview game, in Edit Town, find the Hogan's Deep Fried Diner that now appears in the library under community lots. Bulldoze the existing diner lot and place the one from the library in its place.

You can also bulldoze the entire lot and rebuild it from scratch; there's a Hogan's Deep Fried Diner in Community Objects in build mode, and you can place your own parking spaces and whatnot.

I have no idea what any of this will do to your culinary careers; I'd save my game in any case before experimenting.
