Should really be
"William gently took Belle's hand and placed a soft kiss upon it, his touch filled with a tenderness that took her by surprise. He was far more charming than Gaston, a stark contrast to the rough exterior she had come to expect. Belle was puzzled. William had always seemed so harsh, coarse, and unrefined, yet here he was, treating her with a kindness she had never known. There was clearly something more to him, something hidden beneath the surface that she hadn’t noticed before."
