I recently downloaded The Sims 3 to my Mac, and I'm able to click "play" in Origin, but whenever I do, the launcher opens, and when I press the play button I get what I believe is the startup screen, and then it just stops. I can navigate between the download, upload and the other pages. I can't close the sims window without forcing it to quit though the apple menu. I can't uninstall it, the whole thing just freezes, and I can't really do anything at all... As I've understood it I'm not able to play TS3 at all with my current mac, is this correct?
First of all, forget Origin. You do not need it to play the game. Just launch the game by double clicking on the Sims 3 app in your Applications folder - Applications > The Sims 3 > The Sims 3.
Secondly yes, your Mac is not compatible with the game because it has unsupported Intel graphics. If you want to try and get it working you must edit the graphics files. Instructions
here. There's no guarantee it will work but the fact that you are still running Yosemite is in your favour :)
