Thank you so much for all your help! Here are some updates in lieu of all the advice:
I have clean uninstalled and reinstalled the game, and patched it. Now I have the "unknown error has occurred" message pop back up.
I ONLY have the base model game. Again, I cannot post pictures here so I will do so on the EA forum. In my add-ons folder is only the uninstaller.
I have yet to re-do the .sgr files. I will.
Thanks again for all the help. I'm going to make this last effort.
Sadly to say, I'm exhausted from trying to figure this out. Boot camping my mac is just to much to do I feel. I'm not really considering that a viable option. :(
