Absolutely CANNOT Get the Sims 3 to launch from the launcher no matter what I do

I have been having some very irritating issues regarding my sims 3 application refusing to start from the launcher when I press the play button. I am running it off of steam, I have a Intel Core i7-14700F Processor and a NVIDIA RTX 4060 Graphics Card.

When I press the play button in the launcher, the launcher just puts itself into my tray, and nothing else happens.

I have done everything I can think of at this point including the alder lake fix, which did work and let me open the game a solid total of once. At this point, the game then glitched out in a way where it was loading indefinitely and needed to be restarted. After I restarted the game, the alder lake fix no longer worked.

I have fully uninstalled and reinstalled the game multiple times with the same result. I have deleted the folder within the steam and ea folders respectively, both multiple times, which, you guessed it: Didn't do a single thing.

Does anyone have any idea of what I could do at this point? I'm completely lost for what I could do to fix this besides maybe a full reset of my computer which I'm not even sure would work, either. It would be so nice to play this game I purchased!

  • alyssastanton12  Have you installed NRaas ErrorTrap or another core mod?  What you've described happens sometimes when a core mod is present that's not build for this exact version of the game.  There are very few core mods out there, seven common ones last I heard, but if you're not sure, you could simply remove your entire Mods folder as a test.

If that's not the issue, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

If you haven't tried to play in a while, the former is a distinct possibility.  So in that case, please try to launch the game, then look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Click Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent attempt to open Sims 3.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.

No error means the game is likely being blocked, so in that case, check your antivirus for any recent actions involving Sims 3, and set exceptions/exclusions as necessary.

If you don't see an error and you can't find any evidence your antivirus is interfering, please create a new admin Windows account and try playing there.  Make it local, as in, don't link it to your Microsoft account or any email address.  You'll be able to (try to) play without reinstalling anything.

  • alyssastanton12  Right, that's the Alder Lake issue, which is fixed for EA App installs but not for Steam (or disc) installs.  Please use one of the methods described in the accepted solution of this thread:

    Sims 3 won't open: Alder Lake (Intel 12th-gen) CPU | EA Forums - 8265525

The patch is a one-time intervention, if you'd prefer the easiest solution, but it doesn't work for everyone.  I suspect that the issue is often antivirus-related, but I can't prove it.  At any rate, apply the workaround of your choice to TS3W.exe, with the W, since you have a Steam install.
