After choosing household, game won't proceed any further but is still running

Hi

Firstly, I'm really desperate as this is actually preventing me from playing. Once I choose a household and press the tick which certifys my decision, nothing happens. The music is still playing, I can move around but nothing happens with my family. Please note this isn't a new save, it's an old one which I moved out, replaced their house, and then put them back in as it lost the active household in the process.

I have tried going to edit town and then coming back and trying again - nothing works. I saw an article on a website but the problem was caused by a mod and I have no mods whatsoever. I also went to the main menu and tried loading again - nothing happened. 

If someone can please, please help!!!

    EA has helped me. The solution was quite complicated. I see that there is a "me too", if you want the solution please PM me. 

    Thanks and please understand why I haven't posted a solution, it really is seriously complicated and hard to explain.

    Could you still try to post a quick recap in which direction the solution was going ? Did you have to uninstall something or where did you have to do something to get it fixed.


    Doesn't have to be details but a hint would be good 🙂

    Not trying to continue this ancient thread but many people have been PMing me as I said. So this is from a community manager (with additions of my own): 

    - Can't pick household, checkmark is grey (melynir, MelissaSh, magiccookie, trekkie78, cyrynpen) 
    --> Try deleting tmp files in DCCache and starting game bypassing the launcher 
    --> Try factory reset on first page.

    For DCCache - it's a folder in your sims 3 file.
