Avoid Sims 3 damaging my pc? (Mac)

Hi all, I've read on other threads that the optimisation, outdated settings, unrestricted FPS, etc of Sims 3 could cause damage to your pc over time. My last 2 laptops both ended up with the same problems with the battery and connectivity and the Sims 3 was the only heavy app I used so I want to do everything I can to protect my laptop this time

I saw posts about restricting the FPS but I couldn't find any way to do it on Mac/Macbook. If anyone has any advice on doing this, and the best things to do/download/etc to optimise the game and avoid any problems I'd appreciate it 🙂
