[BUG] Burglar triggers intermittent game freezes

I recently reinstalled Sims 3 (on Wednesday) and have clocked 17 hours since install, with no issues. It is a fresh install from DVD, fully updated. I have no custom content, and only the base game (1.47.6.020001) with auto-updates on. It is being ran on Windows 7 Ultimate (64x), 4GB RAM, Intel Duo CPU E7500, Nvidia GeForce GT 430 (306.97)

My story is this: At night, my Sim was sleeping. My game had a freeze and once the game resumed, the music played that a trespasser was on my property. I watched the Burglar approach the house, my game froze again, then the burglar entered and the alarm went off. Everything continued with freezes every ~10 seconds. Alarm rang, trees moved, water shined, but the sims and menus would freeze up. Finally the Burglar was taken care of and the cop talked to my sim and left. I continued to have the same freezes so I saved and quit, but that did not fix the freezes. I deleted my alarm, thinking that was the issue, but it did not help. A computer reboot hasn't helped either. I am going to try the resetsim * code to make sure it isn't someone stuck, but I wanted to report this problem in hopes to see if anyone else has had this problem and hopefully find a true solution to this bug.

***Update SOLUTION: After performing the restsim * cheat, my game now runs smoothly. Hopefully this will help others with this issue. Please still reply if you had this same issue and found a different fix!
