Can't download/install pack?

I purchased TS3 Movie Stuff a year or so ago, and gave up trying to play the pack as it wouldn't download/install.

I thought I'd try again and am still having the same issues. The installation bar jumps to 96%, then the EA app says 'Installation Error'.

This is the only TS3 pack I've purchased a code for; the base game and other packs were installed via the physical disks.

I realised today that my EA App's download location was set to a different location to where my other TS3 games are installed, so I changed that to the correct folder, and I'm still having the issue.

I've tried clearing the App cache which did nothing, but I'm not sure what else I can try. There are a few other TS3 packs I want but there's no point if I can't play them. 🙁

If anyone can help I'd be super grateful! 🙏

  • alexspoom13  Try uninstalling and reinstalling your 2005 x86 VC++ runtime, which Sims 3 needs and which the EA App may hang on installing.  (And it tries to install the runtime even if it's already present.)  Open Windows Settings > Apps, scroll down to the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables, click the version that says 2005 and does NOT say x64, and uninstall.  You can get a fresh copy here:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26347

You only need the x86 version, not the other two.  Restart your computer after installing and before trying to download your content.

If that doesn't help, try your 2015-2022 VC++ runtimes, which Sims 3 doesn't use but the EA App does.  A few users have cleared up Sims 4 install issues by reinstalling these.  The process is the same, except you'll want to remove every runtime from 2015 or newer, as they're redundant.  Then install both the x86 and x64 versions found here, only from 2022:

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170

If that doesn't help either, try the accepted solution of this thread:

    New Sims 3 expansion: says in-game content, can't install | EA Forums - 8323544

I'd be curious to know what works, if anything.  This problem is not common with Sims 3 but is with Sims 4, so more data would be helpful.

Thanks for responding. I don't think I have a '2005 x86 VC++' installed as it doesn't show when searching installed programs. Assuming I'm looking in the right place?

I followed the second link and my EA app is currently running a repair of my Sims 3 game. However, most of the packs I have installed (mixture of EPs and SPs) are showing as unowned in the app, despite them appearing when I run the game. All my other packs were installed via disk so there's no pattern to why certain ones show as owned and others don't.

Update: Repairing my Sims 3 game has allowed the pack to install!

I did then have some trouble getting my game to launch - nothing was happening when clicking Play in the launcher, but I seem to finally be in-game and the content is there. 🙂

  • alexspoom13  I'm glad the first problem is resolved, at least.  If you still can't get the game to open properly, or you run into any other trouble, let me know.
