@liltierney So Terminal didn't find any other Version.tag? That's not what I'd expect. Just to double-check, please open a Finder window and click Macintosh HD (or whatever you've renamed your hard disk) in the left panel. If you don't see it, click Finder in the upper left corner of your screen, then Preferences > Sidebar, and check the box next to hard disks.
From Macintosh HD, click Users > your username> Documents > Electronic Arts, and you should see a Sims 3 folder. If it has a Version.tag inside, delete it. If not, move the entire Sims 3 folder to your desktop. Then try to play.
If it still doesn't work, please repair the game in Origin: open your game library, right-click on the Sims 3 icon, and select Repair.
