If you see this error:
Please open Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 and delete Version.tag. You'll need to open the folders manually; the file won't show up in a search.
If this doesn't help, please move your entire Sims 3 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, then try to launch the game again.

If that doesn't help, please open Terminal, in Applications > Utilities, copy and paste this command, and enter:
find / -name "Version.tag" 2>/dev/null
Then post the results. (Feel free to black out or delete your username, but please leave the rest intact.) I'd like to see whether there's another copy of this file lurking somewhere on your computer, and if so, where it is.

I’m having issues running sims 3 as well, my game tells me to update it, but doesnt give me an option to update anywhere. I’ve tried repairing it, clearing the cache, re-installing the ea app, but it still won’t give me the option to update

Thanks puzzlezaddict deleting this file worked in mac.
Can anyone please help me out, I've just downloaded the sims 3 game and the sims 3 pets on my Mac via EA. I've updated my laptop, there's no updates for the two games, I've 'repaired' them through the option on EA origin. But it keeps coming up with and error message saying:
"Unable to start game. Your The Sims 3 Base Game is incompatible with the current Sims 3 Expansion Pack. Please update your game via the game launcher".
I've checked so many times and there's no updates, I've literally just brought it and I am unable to play it. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the sims pets and so success.
Please help me!
If its any information I also have the sims 4 downloaded and I've never had a problem playing that before. I've also searched if there's another Sims 3 base game I can download on origin but there is not.
