Drink Promotion can't get out of bar

I can order a drink, order food, dance and chit chat with the sims...however, once I"m in I can't get out...neither can the other sims. The elevator doesn't work. It only works to go up. I got to the point where the bar closed so they can kick me out...they have been kicking me out all night and my sim missed work because I can't leave. Won't let me. I get into the elevator and that's it. the elevator does nothing. HELP!
