drainsg333 Did you make any changes, for example to the graphics settings? If so, delete Options.ini, in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3, and try again, except this time don't make any changes.
If you didn't change anything, load the game to the Main Menu and either enable or disable Advanced Rendering, whichever option you're not currently using. (As in, flip the setting.) I've seen a few people report that they need to have it enabled in CAS and disabled in live mode, or vice versa, for reasons unknown. The household you created should be available in the in-game bin, provided you did fully exit CAS; you can click Move In Household to see it. So you don't need to go back to CAS this time.
