Ever since installing the update last month, I have been unable to successfully play Sims 3 because I simply can't save a game. I'm getting Error Code 16, which I understand to mean that my save file is exceeding 4GB, however, I only currently have 5 households saved and never had this problem prior to the update.
- I have checked that I have plenty of free storage on my C drive and plenty of storage space in OneDrive where all my files are back up.
- I've tried pausing my OneDrive syncing.
- I've deleted all saves in-game and deleted my Saves folder.
- I've tried saving my household under a different name.
Following a live chat session with EA support, these are all the things that were covered during our discussions. In the end, I was told that there was nothing more they could do and that I should throw myself at the mercy of the forums. I'm afraid I expected more, but it is what it is so here I am. 🤷♀️
LynxKitty66613 Are you getting the Error Code 16 or something else? Are all your saves affected or only one? Is your computer's Documents directory currently in the OneDrive folder or not? Even if you think not, please double-check with the reg query command in the thread I linked.
If that isn't the issue (and you are getting an Error 16 with any save), try creating a new admin Windows account and playing there. Make it local, as in, don't link it to your Microsoft account or any email address. You'll be able to play without reinstalling anything, but your saves and other content won't be available. That's fine for testing purposes, and if the new account works, it's simple enough to transfer your Sims 3 data there. Or we can try to fix the main account now that we'd know the issue was only there.
