  • I have the sims and pretty much all the EPs. I installed them on my new computer and when I went to play it, it told me that I had to reinstall the base game. So I un-installed everything and when I went to un-install the base game an error message keeps popping up and cancells the un-install. The error message says, ``An error (-5005 : 0x8000ffff) has occurred while running the setup.`` What can I do to fix this?

  • Hi,

My computer was disconnected for about 4 months due to a move of house where I couldn't set it up for that length of time. When I managed to find a corner for it I was all excited and installed the latest EPs I got for my birthday: Supernatural and Seasons. It asked me to download origin and I did, and created an account, BUT, when I finished installing the first EP, instead of the autorun, a window opened on the Documents folder. I thought I'd pushed the mouse button by mistake over it, so I closed it without giving it much thought, but after downloading the second EP I found the documents window popped up again and there was no way I could get to play the game. This morning I tried to uninstall everything, but when I got to the actual base game error -5005 : 0x8000ffff came up. I looked online and found a way to solve it, and am now re-installing everything, but everytime the installsheild ends, up pops the documents folder! No EA download manager, no game launcher. Please help me solve it!

I'm playing the Sims 3 on XP SP3. Thank you for your time and patience!

    Anita

  • Recently I have downloaded Custom Content through the store; Mostly pets and a few buildings. Then I couldn't access the Create-A-Family, as it would try to load forever. I thought updating might help, as I have never been able to update before (I have version 1.38.151, it wouldn't work because of the following error.) Then, the following error appeared halfway through installation:

    Error Code:    -5005 : 0x8000ffff
    Error Information:
    >Kernel\KernelMedia.cpp (95)
    >SetupNew\setup.cpp (851)

I then deleted all of my custom content and uninstalled my expansion packs, Supernatural and Pets, and then tried to update again, but the same error appeared. I had then tried to uninstall The Sims 3, but the same error appeared again. This has been happening since I've first installed the Sims 3, about a year ago. Any suggestions on how to fix these?

Try a clean reinstall following the instructions here: http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:TS3_Uninstall and here: http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-3/Help-Guide-All-in-one-fix-except-hardware-issues-PC-only/m-p/734448#M36281 where it says Delete game installers

Manually delete everything if above method does not work: https://help.ea.com/article/manually-uninstalling-the-sims-3

Make sure everything Sims is gone from your computer before reinstalling

If the game still shows in your Uninstaller Menu afterwards, you can use CCleaner to get rid of those.
