Existing Pets and Enrolling at the University

I owned a lot with a couple, their cat and their horse.  When I enrolled my Sims in University, they left the house and entered a new map in which I had to choose living accommodations.  I don't know how to get back to my home and my pets, or if I have to graduate first, or if they no longer exist.

Is this something I should have known beforehand?

    that just means your still at uni and can carry on with your uni game... like with world adventures if I sent 3 sims to france and send two home the remaining sim is the one I look after in france  as he or she depending on who I keep the game considers that world adventures is the one been played with when that sim finally goes home everyone else is where they should be

    you can graduate if you wish too then your sims will go home to your home world  or have your  sims  quit uni and go back home ,pets or  babies cannot travel to uni so if a sim has a baby or child in the home world if there is an young adult or adult in the house they will baby sit until your return from uni if there is no adult or young adult sim per say your sim is a single parent a babysitter is hired automatically while your sims are at uni

    What if there were only two adults which are now enrolled and there are the two pets left behind?  Are they going to die or be taken away in my absence?

    to be honest I  cannot answer that one and say yes they will fine or no they won't...the only thing I can suggest to you is to send your sims home and see if your pets are ok if they are ok then again just a suggestion only send one sim to uni OR make another sim to put in your household to look after the pets while both your sims  enroll at uni again

    Well, I sent one home and instead of being able to toggle back and forth to take care of my pets and my sim in the university, now I can only take care of the sim still in the university.  /sigh
