Extremely slow/Freezes constantly

I had a total of 7 Sims: a female witch, her husband a genie, their twins daughters 1 a witch and the other a genie, and 3 horses (1 male and 2 females). I thought being specific might help. Anyway, a meteor came and killed the male genie. Everyone in the family is heartbroken over their loss and ever since then, it has been EXTREMELY slow and it freezes for a long time each time that it freezes. I don't understand what's going on. I would like to continue to play the game but I'd be sitting here for 5 minutes before I can play for maybe 30 seconds before it freezes again. I thought with some time, it would pass but it hasn't improved one bit. Tried moving them into a new house, then a new neighborhood but neither worked. What can I do? I don't want to lose all the progress I've made with this family. Please help.

    Apparently what ever happened in the game increased the load on the cpu. The A8 APU has no L3 cache and that hurts the performance (a lot). I'm guessing the computer is an old version as HP is now putting the AMD A10 in those models.

    Actually I just bought this laptop, lol. I have Windows 8 and all already installed when I first bought this in February. So I at least hope this isn't an older version of HP. So is there anything I can do to lessen the load or whatever?
