Clarification needed, to aid in troubleshooting this issue:
1. Is this game lag experienced only in OL, only in the "home world," or in both OL and the "home world"? Which world did it happen in, first?
Once the households I played became laggy, I just popped out to the main menu and deleted the save out of annoyance. I am currently running mod free
--I miss you, Twallan. :'[--
And I have experienced it after travelling to OL and then returning home as well as after going to Uni and returning home.
2. Have you checked for routing errors in the world? Stuck sims? Stuck animals in home world? Multiplying spawners? Abandoned cars/vehicles? Too many NPCs spawning at certain places in the world? Any other causes for lag noted in any of Crinrict's stickied threads? (It is important to eliminate all known causes for lag, before we can accurately pinpoint a new cause for lag never seen before ITF.)
Not sure, always had overwatch handle all that, so don't know how to check.
3. Is this happening in factory reset games or is it only in pre-played saves from earlier expansions?
One was from a fresh sim. One was from a previous save. One was from a premade maxis house (the scientist chic from IP).
4. Are you playing with any EA cheats turned on?
Sometimes with TCE.
5. Did you visit Utopia? Did you visit Dystopia?
No. & No.
6. Is the same approximate amount of time needed for causing the corruption/lag similar in every game played, or does the amount of time needed to cause the corruption/lag directly relate to the number of time jumps? In other words, can you "cause" the problem by doing several consecutive time jumps, with only one day or night between jumps?
Hmmm. Not sure. Should really try to test this. But it's difficult to devote days to playing something you know will just tick you off. The last time I know I traveled three times to university before I noticed and rage deleted the save. That was my Mort and Bella save. I had aged them up together, got them engaged and set them aside just for ITF's release.
The time before that the sim traveled twice to OL before I rage deleted that save. Had stayed in OL a really long time learning bot building, returned to normal world to earn the statue for that, then went forward to see the statue. At which point I went to get the lottery tickets, and returned to normal time and was just super angry when the game lagged out. Luckily my mouse is attached by a cord or it would have been shattered on the wall.
I'm sure I will still try and play my games, and if it happens again I'll pop back in. If I have the time to, I'll try just traveling around and see when the lag starts again. I just won't play any households I am fond of for a while.
7. Are you spending most of your play time in the "home world" or in OL?
Well, either in Uni or OL. I am in the habit of sending most families I play to uni just to boost their career and pay scale.
8. Can you move the lagging save to a factory reset game, and still experience the lag? (This would eliminate lag caused by anything other than the save, itself.)
No, but I could try it. I think I still have a binned Mort and Bella I can throw into a store content free game and travel to uni and/or OL. I really hope it isn't store content. I love my content. (I don't use any cc, so I'm really attached to all the EA goodies.) :( But if it's just the crystal tree (I think that's what the OP mentioned), I think I live without it.
Basic info:
Lenovo
Windows 8 64bit
Intel Core i7-3630QM CPU @2.40GHz
6.00GB RAM
Nvidia 660M
ETA: I have been playing another Maxis family for several in game weeks, present time not travelling anywhere (OL, Uni, or WA). This save has no lag in it at all.
