Game Disappeared after Traveling

Hello,

My sim went to China in World Adventures. It kept crashing so I’d restart and finally he was able to complete his trip and get back home. When he got home, the house was there (I redesigned a premade sims house and it was the same as how I designed it), the family was gone, including him (5 sims and 3 dogs). They all disappeared. I was able to save, since I didn’t want my sim to lose his progress from China but that prob was a bad idea. I also got a pop up saying exception raised, do you wish to debug?

When I exited and reopened, the game was there but no sims were showing. I was reading somewhere to move the file and then do something else. I moved the file and then when I reopened the game it was saying new game. When I moved the file back to the electronic arts file, and restarted the game it still said start new game. My old game is completely gone and I tried the create backup, move backup save folder to the desktop and rename the .sims3backup folder. It still says start new game.

There are files in my saves folder but I’m not sure if they’re the correct files or if they’re bugged. Any idea where all of my sims went or my old game?

  • @Amtf032191  Please move or rename the Sims 3 folder in Documents > Electronic Arts, then open the launcher to create a(nother) new folder.  Go into your original Sims 3 folder, right-click on the Saves folder inside and select Copy, then right-click inside Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 and Paste.

Open the Saves folder, and you should see a folder labeled with your save name and another with the same name plus a .backup extension.  So if your save is SunsetValley, you'll see SunsetValley.sims3 and SunsetValley.sims3.backup.  Change the backup's name and delete the .backup extension (e.g. SunsetValley1.sims3), and you should be able to load it from the Main Menu.

If the travel transition breaks again, quit without saving, and let me know.

Thank you so much! So that worked and I have my game now but the people are still missing from the game screen. I was able to click on my game but then the error message popped up again and closed it. It says “Exception Raised. Unhandled exception 0x80000003 at address 0x0058dc16. Do you wish to debug it?”. Photo of the message is attached.

I also tried freeing up ram as I have read this is a common error message if ram memory is almost used up. I still receive the message and blank house/family game after freeing up ram space.

@Amtf032191  Does the backup save work, as in, can you load it at all?  One cause of the blank household thumbnail on the Main Menu is having a tent stored in a World Adventures chest.  If you can't load the save though, that's not going to help.

I tried using both the regular save and backup save. The files look the same in both the regular and backup-not sure if they would be different. The game opens up for both and then the blank game appears. If I click on it and it starts to load, thats when it crashes with the error message. This happens with both saves, backup and regular. I also copied the neighborhood on the startup menu so it saved a new copy of the game as a new save, it does the same thing and is blank as well. That makes sense, the China trip kept crashing so I think I left the tent because I didn't want it to crash without saving (accidentally left it out in a different location in China-wanted my Sim to go back right away before it crashed). I'm not sure if the files are corrupted? How would I know if they are? Attached are the current files I have in the saves folder.

@Amtf032191  The contents of the save folder look normal, although there's no easy way to tell if one of the files is corrupted.  It's also worth trying to play while your computer is offline: you can login to Origin and put it in offline mode, then disable wifi and/or disconnect the ethernet cable before pressing Play.

Otherwise, if you'd like, I can take a look at the regular and backup saves myself; just upload them to a free filesharing site and either post the link here or send it to me via private message.  And let me know what packs you currently have installed as well.
