Game won't launch, tells me I need to sign in to activate?

I haven't played for a few months and of course as soon as I really want to play, the game won't let me.

I have a Mac and am playing the game through Parallels and the EA app, but someone suggested posting here for suggestions so here I am.

The message I am getting is in a little pop up and reads: "Sign in with your EA Account to activate The Sims 3 on this computer."

So far I have tried:

- Updating my Mac OS as well as the Parallels app
- Logging in and out of my EA account both on the EA app and in the Sims launcher window (even though I rarely log into the launcher window)
- Clearing my browser history on all browsers, as that was a suggestion
- Uninstalling and re-installing both the EA app and The Sims 3
- Restarting my computer a million times, including between all of these changes to see if it helps

Any ideas?

puzzlezaddict Thank you! It's frustrating it won't work, but your "directly in MacOS" comment got me searching and then I realized I could play through my Mac and didn't need to use parallels for it at all. I didn't know that was an option. :) I got it up and working, thank you for your help!

Ugh, thanks. That's frustrating. I wonder if my update to Parallels caused the issue. I'll try reporting it and see what comes of it.

  • KennaKansas  This may well be a Parallels problem, as you're the second person to report it for Sims 3 in the last few days, and I haven't seen any cases with the game running on a native Windows machine or directly in macOS.  That would mean it's a Parallels problem, or at least a problem between Parallels and the EA App, so I would suggest reporting the issue to the developer.

I will flag this to an EA community manager as well, but Parallels compatibility is likely a very low priority, and the software may not be officially supported at all.  So I don't know whether you'd see any quick fix from the EA side.
